RT and nausea

Post RP I'm on Bicalutamide 150mg and have been for the last 3 months and have just started RT to the prostate bed and lymph nodes nearby. One of the side effects I'm getting is nausea which I know is down to the RT but the nurses in RT seem a bit puzzled by this. So can you folks confirm is this just me or is this a known side effect of RT. The marginal fatigue I was feeling from the hormone treatment has increased with the RT to being quite lethargic, which I believe is not unusual. I will have to get nausea meds from my GP as I'm expecting it to be cumulative. I'm trying to be active and sometimes do the opposite of what my body is telling me which is to take it easy.

Not something that I noticed when I had 15 sessions of RT. Is it only during the treatment or does it persist?

Must admit that with 32 sessions of RT I didnt feel nauseous much at all, I had several effects from the HT I was on but seem to remember the RT affected bowel, bladder&fatigue and effects didnt start too soon after RT started.

I've noticed the extra fatigue and nausea from the start of RT which was earlier on this week so can only imagine it will continue but hopefully not accumulate over the next 3 weeks. Will definitely be looking at getting nausea medication.

The vast majority of men having RT sail through it but there have been a very small number who have been severely affected for some reason and a couple even having to stop the treatment. Seems sensible to see if you can get ssome suitable medication to deal with your nausea because it's best you continue if you can.

I'm on RT session 17 of 20 and haven't had any nausea, however I'm not on HT. May be its a combination of both that's affecting you as it does have a big impact on the body. Hope it passes quickly for you.

It's weird the last day or two the nausea seems to have passed. Fingers crossed this will continue to be the case. Thanks for all the posts and hope you all have a trouble free & peaceful Christmas. :)

Hi Gerry,

Just to let you know that I too am currently experiencing nausea from RT. I am on day 5. It started on day 4 for and lasted 2 hours. Today it has lasted 4 hours. I mentioned it to the Radiographer and she said that she had never heard of that side effect and felt that it wasn't caused by RT. I am.also on Bicalutamide 150. I would love to know if the feeling eased or got worse as you progressed through your treatment and if there was anything that helped ease the nausea.

Well the nausea did pass but due to the nature of RT side effects are cumulative so towards the end of the treatment fatigue began to set in as well as slight incontinence but rarely to the point I was caught out. It will test your bladder control so make absolutely sure you do plenty of pelvic floor exercises and there was a few moments when bowel action was tested so if you hear the call don't put it off. My bowel movements were excellent when I started and what I mean by this is once a day, in the morning first thing and one large complete movement, no mess. Then it went downhill from week one to several times a day, feeling I hadn't completed and messy. It's improving but still not back to what it was and I'm at 6 weeks post RT so early days yet. As for the nausea you can get meds from your GP or get them perscribed by your oncology team. Hope that helps
