Wine or no wine?

OK, so I had my RALP on 15/12/2025 and I have my TWOC booked for 30/12/2025. All I have drunk so far is large amounts of water, some teas and coffees. Would it be OK to have a glass of white wine with my Xmas dinner or should I abstain?

Get it down you. I was drinking as soon as I got home. Didn’t aggravate my bladder at all. And here I am 10 years on. Only very random bed wetting at first but not assignable to anything really. Just enjoy it

Wine is probably preferable to coffee which is really irritating to the bladder after RP

Sorry this is a bit late but the very esteemed surgeon who operated on my OH recommends a pint a night during recovery. Not sure that is the best medical advice, but my OH was definitely happier when he felt well enough to have a pint or glass of wine. He doesn't overdue and he enjoys. I hope your Christmas celebration was merry!

Hi Andy,

Hope that you enjoyed your Xmas dinner glass of wine. Have another with your Boxing day, lunch; and keep up the training for the new year celebrations.

I've been a big drinker most of my life. I did not let cancer stop me doing what I enjoy.

The day I was discharged after RARP I had a couple of pints at home to celebrate. My profile picture shows me having my first pint in a pub only four days after the op.

The general medical advice is to avoid alcohol after surgery. In my case, no-one gave me any such advice, so I cracked on as normal.

Obviously everyone is different, but getting back on the beer did me no harm. In fact, it helped  me feel, that some normality had returned to my life, aiding my recovery. 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the festive season, mate. 👍

Hope it worked out OK Andy. My experience was the same as Francij, a single cup of coffee had a far worse effect than a single glass of wine.

But too much alcohol was definitely a problem, I had to be very careful pacing myself at parties (that was later in recovery though, I wasn't going to parties around the time of getting the catheter out, but I had the benefit of a different time of year).

when I had a telephone call from oncology whilst on holiday, they asked where I was answer in the bar,  best reception, her reply came back with are you drinking,  yes red wine, the answer surprised me drink a glass of water with each wine, and if you do ignore labels that "don't drink with this medicine" made my day and still sticking to albeit more water these days after 6 years ish.  Happy days
