Post RALP Update

I had my RALP 15/12/2025 - 2 1/2 weeks ago.

An update - continence is very good from the off! I have control and know when to wee without any trouble. Only wearing one pad per day. This is for security rather than for any leaks. I have had just a couple of small urine drops due to sneezing and passing wind. But this seems to have passed. I’m thinking that I am reaping the rewards for having gone jogging every day for months prior to surgery (which is something that I regularly do anyway). I also did pelvic floor exercises daily for months prior to surgery. At night so far, I have either slept right through with no leaks; or have woken once in the middle of the night and gone to the loo (without any leaks).

Only one nerve bundle was spared during surgery as the surgeon had to remove this to hopefully get clear margins. There was a concern from the template biopsy that perineural invasion might be present. Post surgery, the surgeon told me that the nerve bundle was ‘rock hard’. I am very concerned about this and hoping that all the cancer was removed; and that I do not need any salvage radiotherapy! I’m not looking forward to the six weeks appointment with the surgeon.

Other than this, I feel that I am doing really well. I’m doing two walks per day.

Pleased for you.   Sounds good     I am now 4months post op and pretty much back to normal.  My post histology after surgery was at 10 weeks and I had negative margins and an undectable psa which I was pleased with.    I had perinuedal invasion but on reading and researching it I believe it quite common and doesn’t really affect the outcome too much ( I not medically trained though )  I have days when I don’t even think about the last 8 months which I would have given my life savings( it’s not a lot hahah ) to be able to think like that at the start of it all.  I’ve got my next psa in 6 weeks which is obviously in the back of my mind but it’s nothing to what I was panicking about in the past.    I’m sure you’ll be fine mate.    Cheers
