Decapeptyl 3 months or 6 months

Husband had his 2nd injection today. He had requested 3 months and GP had agreed but Pharmacist has overridden this and he was given 6 months. He just said there's no difference.  It seems a bit disrespectful to a patients wishes but when put in front of you and you've made your way there in ice and snow, you just do it. It seems the slow release is OK

I'm hoping that's the case. He's been OK so far, keeping very active, walking a lot, chopping wood, decorating our daughters house. I'm just hoping it doesn't get too bad.

Antoinette, I am on 3 monthly decapeptyl, the doctors wanted me to go onto 6 monthly injections, presumably it saves the surgery money. I said I wanted to stay on 3 monthly. As you say a bit disrespectful to ignore your wishes,we keep being told we have a choice. I assume that if they make it slow release over there months they can make it slow release over six months.

Thanks Chris

I elected to take my GP's advice and go for the 3 monthly option. The primary reason was that should the Decapeptyl cause me undue problems, it would have been quicker to wean myself off of it. I have never heard of a pharmacist overriding a valid GP prescription without consultation.

Hi Chris, I googled it and does say no difference in release so hopefully fine. But yes it's a principle. The pharmacist is very arrogant tbh. Husband is going to take it up. He doesn't get cross like me, more easy going and matter of fact!

Hi we both have the same GP. She's very good, and very good at listening and treating patients with respect. However occasionally her IT has been a bit sus. It may be it didn't register. Yes the pharmacist seems a bit full of himself to be truthful. After covid he seems to have more power than ever.!
