I had my brachytherapy procedure in Feb last year, with a starting PSA of 4.5. My diagnosis was Gleason 3/4, T2.
Everything went as planned at the time. I had a completely separate issue (detailed in other threads) with a perineal abcess which knocked me right back in my recovery, but settled after a couple of months. I really had a dip, positivity wise, at that time but managed to bounce back with support from family, rest and exercise.
Had the expected side effects re: increased urination, but that settled after 6-8 months. I am now up occasionally during the night, but nothing more than normal at my age and stage. I am still taking Alfuzosin daily, waiting for advice from consultant next week.
My last PSA was in July and was 1.9. A great result by all accounts. Consultant recommended moving to a 6 monthly test and get on with my life, which I have done.
So, my latest test in preparation for my catch up phone call next Monday has come back at 1.4. Still heading in the right direction. I have to bear in mind that this is the long game, which can take a couple of years to settle down to the target of 0.1 or less, so all good so far.
General health is great, no long term side effects, hoping to get more positive this year and engage with some awareness raising/fundraising initiatives here in Scotland by way of some payback for the brilliant treatment amid the increasing noise created by Sir Chris Hoy documentary and other high profile cases. Starting to get the feeling that we may be approaching the corner, if not turning it yet, against this horrible disease.
Happy to discuss any element of the treatment with anyone considering it, or at a different stage of the process.
Stay positive.
