Upcoming Biopsy

Hello all, I'm 67yrs and have no symptoms related to prostate issues or cancer.  However, I decided to have a PSA test last year and it came back as abnormal at 3.6 and six months later was repeated and had a score of 4.4 but still with no symptoms.  This lead to having a series of tests culminating in an NRI with a PI-RADs score of 4.  I'm now booked for a transperineal biopsy next week which I'm assuming is the right thing to do.  I know there can be some risk and side effects from this and that the procedure itself might be a bit uncomfortable.  Could anyone share their experience of this?

It’s not something I would rush to repeat. I did make the staff chuckle during the procedure by saying it was better than the dentist as I could keep taking and I was getting something for free on the NHS which apparently some people pay to experience for pleasure!

Hi SOUTHERN,

I am so sorry to hear you are on this journey with us and so hope the biopsy gives you a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card.

I had a biopsy in 2024 which confirmed Prostate Cancer and I am now 18 months post the op to have my prostate removed. I had no side effects from the biopsy despite having extra samples taken, although there was a bit of soreness between the legs for a day or so. Every experience is different but having cancer confirmed is worth it and even better if you get a clean bill of health. The actual biopsy was a bit uncomfortable but I agree with MGOR, it's better than going to the dentists and you don't pay for it! I would also say it's worth suspending your dignity during the process and just think of England!
