Awaiting CT Scan

User
Posted 20 Jan 2026 at 17:27

Hi, I got the dreaded phone call today, (about 4 hours ago)telling me I had a Gleason score of 7 on the left side and a Gleason score of 8 on the other so they are treating me with the highest score of 8 which is highly likely. (My PSA was 14)I am now down for CT scans and further tests on the NHS in a couple of weeks. All the NHS staff have been wonderful. I’m worried, scared, upset, unsure and many other things besides any tips or advise would be most welcome.

Got the good news yesterday cancer hasn’t spread is treatable, operable and curable - operation in about 4 weeks, Thankyou all for being there for me, I will be running the Great North Run in September to radish money for Prostate UK

I can understand your worry. I was Gleason 9 PSA 25. Now 8 years later I have no signs of cancer and life back to normal. You are currently getting all the tests done, it's just a process. I doubt they think it is in your bones, but they have to do all the tests once they get started.

Hi, Andy.

I'm sorry that your biopsy wasn't as good as you'd wanted mate. Do you have a cancer staging? Is the disease contained within the prostate?

You are bound to feel scared, upset and bewildered. They are emotions that we've all experienced.

All I can advise, although it's extremely difficult, is try not to worry too much. Focus and deal with each procedure. Once your diagnosis is complete, you can then concentrate on a treatment plan.

I ended up with Gleason 9 (4+5) which had breached the prostate capsule, T3a staging.

Three years ago, I had robotic surgery and fortunately, since then, my PSA has been undetectable.

My life is now virtually the same as before prostate cancer entered it.

I hope your scans go well. Please keep us updated.

Good luck, mate. 👍

Thanks Adrian,

Your words give me hope, comfort and some reassurance and I’m sure I will sleep a little easier tonight. I’m going to keep a record on here with updates on my further diagnosis results. Thanks again for your words and sharing your experience which as I said makes me feel a little better already

Sounds like it is contained - further scans will  confirm so hopefully can be dealt with.
The Gleeson score is an indication  of the need to treat (7 or more) or leave for now (6)

For most of us this is the worse time as you get drip drips of further information .  The NHS can  sometimes move fast but never fast enough at this time but once the medics have all the relevant info for your particular case,  they will formulate  a treatment plan, hang in there and remind yourself they are  on your case.

Thanks for the update, Andy

Don't worry about it being quick, mate. Bone scans seem to often be done as standard procedure, and the speed of getting them seems to vary from hospital to hospital.

Better to get it done, so you can tick it off your list of 'things to do'.

Good luck, mate. 👍

Bone scan pretty routine  (I had PSMA petscan due to high risk)  so good that is close to being done.

Great stuff, Andy. Another procedure that you'll be able to tick off your 'things to do' list. The sooner these jobs are done the better. You'll soon get a treatment plan and be able to concentrate on that and focus on your recovery.

In the meantime, if you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to ask. Someone will always be here to help out. 👍

PS: I'd forgotten when I had my CT and bones scans. It just goes to show that things that once caused me so much anxiety, have now just become faded memories. I've dug out my medical records. My CT scan was about 3 weeks after my 2nd biopsy results and my bone scan was 10 days after that.

Hi again mate.

Your back pain is highly unlikely to be  prostate related. We often blame our poor old prostate for all our aches and pains.

Mine was removed three years ago and I still blame it for my arthritic pains 🙂

Good luck for Thursday mate.👍

Thanks Patrick,

I thank you for more words of comfort, The NHS staff have been great. I spoke to a Eurologist a few weeks ago as I was due my MRI results and had been referred for biopsies but nobody had told me why. As it was just before Xmas he looked at my MRI and told me why I was having further tests,He also said that if it was cancer it hadn’t spread. But when I spoke to the nurse today and asked her how he could tell that, she said she didn’t know why and couldn’t answer or give a reason for his response. I hope he was right and my CT scan confirms this. Thanks again for your words - they bring some more comfort.

The CT scan will detect any bowel blockage. 😂

Sorry Andy, I couldn't resist that. 🙂

You'll be okay, mate.

Joking apart my CT scan picked up all sorts of things. Including, lung nodules, a diverted bowel, and bone anomalies in my pelvis area.

Bl**dy hell! I thought. They all turned out to be nothing to worry about.

Haha, made me laugh, or laff as they say in these parts. But I am preparing myself for those dreaded words that it has spread. Didn’t sleep much last night, not sure I will tonight either. I’ve quit drinking alcohol and even started drinking Green Tea. Tastes like the brick I’m about to s***, but I’m gunna have to get used to it

Had bone scan yesterday, got CT scan on Thursday then just waiting for the dreaded results however long it takes. Have a kind of ache at bottom of my back which I’m convinced is a sign of the disease having spread

My hip started playing up about the time I got diagnosed, worried me sick, 4 years later it was replaced all great now and was due to an old horse injury!!

I know how you must have felt and like Adrian said in an earlier post you link everything and blame everything on your prostate

User

It's great news that your bone scan was clear. The next step, at least it was for me, is they'll have an MDT meeting, review your test and scan results and decide what treatment options are available to you.

You're doing well, mate.👍

I rang the hospital today for my CT results, she hesitated at first, put me on hold whilst she spoke to a nurse and then said they haven’t received them yet, really s*** me up like they know something but not telling me

User

Hi again, Andy

I think it's fair to say, that the psychological pressures of dealing with prostate cancer, can make us all a little paranoid.

We often hear comments like, why are my results late? Why are my scans early? When they said that, did they really mean something else? The list is endless.

You'll be okay, mate. Once a treatment plan is put in place, most of the uncertainties are out of the way. You can then concentrate on that treatment and the recovery from it.
