My friends has prostrate cancer. He has excessive weight loss >10% and loses weight every month and was already slim. He has a bad heart. He is having no treatment.  The excessive weight loss started 14 months ago. Basically I'm trying to find out life expectancy.  I have no psa numbers. Anyone with any info will be appreciated

Given the very limited information it is impossible to say. And even with plenty of information it is nearly impossible to say.

Another question is, Does knowing make any difference?

Well one practical answer to that, is that if a doctor states his life expectancy is less than six months he may be entitled to certain state benefits.

Another answer is funeral planning, and writing a will, but that should be done irrespective of life expectancy.

Thanks for reply. We ex army buddies and as such its hard to get info out of him. Stubborn devil. He is refusing treatment and is losing weight every month. Its coming down to us his mates to get his affairs in order.  Hence the awkward question of life expectancy.  Think he has entered something called cachexia.  The docs feed him high calories but weight keeps going.
