Pelvic floor exercises after continence returns?

Hi all.  I am about 9 weeks post RALP.  I consider myself very lucky to have recovered my continence to almost 100% already. I attribute this at least in part, to being pretty diligent with the Kegels/Pelvic floor exercises.  I started over a month before the op and started again at 2 weeks post op when the catheter came out.

My question is, to others who have recovered continence do you continue to do the exercises afterwards?  if so do you plan to do them forever? If you stopped, did any urinary incontinence return?

I am planning to carry on for the forseeable, but wonder if I may be able to stop or at least taper to fewer in the future?

Hello, mate.

Apparently pelvic floor exercises are also good for erectile dysfunction.

I suppose,  logically, continuing doing a few pelvic floor exercises, like doing any moderate exercise, can only do you good.

I occasionally still do mine when I'm sat having a pint.

Hi Dave,

I'm six years post op, I have full continence but still do my PFE's every day. My logic being that I want to maintain continence into my old age.

As for ED, keep trying, it takes a lot of patience. I found it a difficult journey, but it's all in working order now.

Good luck,

Kev.

Thanks Kev, makes sense.  I'm braced for the long haul with ED.

Hubby does them every day without fail and will
Continue forever. Just approaching 4 years since surgery.

Thanks all, it's great to hear experiences from those further along this journey than me. I will carry on with the PFEs!

Thanks Adrian. I think that's the conclusion I've come to. Keep doing some, just not as many as I am now.

Useful to know on the ED front. I'm early in that journey. I just received my pump yesterday and trying to get my head around using it for 15 mins every day as recommended by the urology nurse.

So time for that, plus pelvic floor exercises, plus the stretching and fitness I try to do to stave off age related aches and pains is all eating into my day! Hence thinking about trimming one of them back.
