Yearly rises of PSA

Morning all. Only just joined so bear with me. I’m 56 and  I’ve been having PSA tests for 9 years. All have been under 2 but just had 2 elevated readings of 2.65 and 3.37 . GP is retesting. Just worried that this figure will continue to increase . Any similar experience out there or advice would be appreciated. David

Hi David it’s unusual for regular PSA testing. Is there a reason for having them? If so that could influence the process. The two raised results were they also one year apart? Or closer together.

The absolute values are within normal range, but the PSA velocity is dependent on the time between tests. I’m pretty sure if someone without any history of previous results got a sub 4 PSA it would be seen as normal with no further follow up. So if PSA is rising I would ask about PSA velocity and PSA doubling time as these would be important with low absolute PSA values.

Best of luck with the retest.

Thank you . No I just tested with men’s health charity CHAPS. 2025 test was 2.65 and 2026 was 3.37 but retest pending. I don’t have symptoms or problems.

Hi David

From personal experience the rate of rise of your PSA needs to be looked at. I had a similar experience over 15 years ago when my PSA jumped significantly over two years, my GPs (yes, two of them) told me not to worry about that because the absolute values were well within my age range. I wasn't happy with them so I went private, had MRI assisted biopsy, early stage cancer confirmed, had RARP and the rest is history. Better to have an independent opinion if you can.
