Hello,

Please click on our avatar for journey profile.

I posted over the weekend on my update post and today we have found out that the CT scan booked for next week was ordered as urgent and paul also has an appt for a bone scan on the 10th March.

Specialist nurse said to Paul that she was planning on phoning him today....so the hopeful temporary psa bounce back in December has continued to rise, now at 2.5 which is more than quadruple his lowest psa of 0.5..

Paul is only 5 months into Abireratone, nurse has said that treatment may have failed.....I can't get my head round this, he responded so well initially with the Degarelix injections, add Abireratone into the mix and first bloods showed great response but it hasnt lasted....I am not sure what all this means moving forward, he is so well, no new symptoms.....I just dont get it......feeling really angry😡

Polly.

Thats really bad news. To have started so well on a treatment plan for it to seemingly fail so soon.

My brother is older than Paul but is in a similar position. HT initially to keep chemo in reserve. Now only months in his psa is at 20 and scans are planned to see what going on.

We are seeing consultant on Thursday as he thinks the only choice now is to try chemo which runs the risk of affecting his heart.

It seems the cancer must be very aggressive and definitely resistant to hormone therapy.

He's finding it hard to see a way forward based on what little information we have.

I hope things become clearer for you and Paul.

Best regards. Mick xx

Hi Polly

I'm sorry to read your update. I hope the scans bring better news and help plan treatment. Keep as positive as you can.

Sending my best wishes to you both.

P.s.  if it does turn out that the cancer is becoming hormone resistant then your partner is likely to be eligible to take part in trials of new drugs most likely at cancer centers in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

If this is an option for you then it's worth discussing with your oncology team. There are pros and cons with trials and of course no guarantees.

But everything in advanced PCa seems like a bit of a gamble. 🙂

Best wishes
