Private ultra sensitive PSA tests

The old timers know my story.

Dec 2016, prostatectomy, age 46.  In the year after that, my PSA was taken every 3 months 0.014, 0.015, 0.019 and 0.023.  I had a PSMA scan followed by salvage radiotherapy and hormone therapy.

My PSA fell to >0.006, the lowest the machine could read.

The hospital then started using a different machine.  My PSA was >0.025, the new lowest possible reading.

I have moved to Wales.  My latest PSA is >0.1.  They don't use the ultra sensitive PSA test.

Does anyone know how to get a private ultra sensitive test and how much it costs?

Hi,

GFCT (Graham Fulford) do a postal test that goes to a lowest of 0.03.

I once considered this and decided that one way was to find a hospital that you know does the sensitive test and then find a Private GP or Urologist who says they send tests to that hospital to do the test.  Or perhaps agrees to send the test to that hospital. It will likely mean travelling.  That will probably cost £250 for the initial consultation and probably £150 for the test at a guess.

You could try to persuade your own NHS hospital or GP to refer you to that hospital initially.

Good luck

Fellow old-timer! You need to ask what level you would start further treatment? As you have had all the radiation and surgery practically you will not do anything until way past 0.1 so is there any practical benefit??

UM,I was thinking along the same lines as Francij1. How did you manage to get the PSMA scan at 0.023, was that privately. I had SABR treatment to an individual tumor after going through surgery and SRT. Initially they were going to let the PSA get to 2,4 or even 10 before starting me on HT but then SABR treatment to hot spots became more widely used.

Do you have any Genisis care centres in easy reach.

Thanks Chris

Ultra sensitive tests suit some, but to me,  they would cause unnecessary stress.

I've had my PSA tested at two laboratories, their lowest detectable levels were 0.02 and 0.05 respectively.

Oh, they used to go down to 0.01 when I used them.

Colwickchris, I did get my PSMA test done privately.  However, my NHS hospital in Slough did refer me to a London NHS hospital to have it done, but there was a long waiting list.

I do have a genesis care facility I could use.  My NHS oncologist actually works there.

I'll maybe try the Graham Fulford Trust.
