Difficulties In Obtaining Injectable ED Medication

Hello:

Having had a Radical Prostatectomy in January 2022, all efforts were made to have nerve-sparing surgery. Unfortunately this was not possible, and as a consequence have been treated for a degree of erectile dysfunction ever since.

I have been using an injectable erectile dysfunction medication, (Caverject) for a little over 3 years, and it works very effectively for me.

In 2024 Caverject was discontinued in the UK, and my G.P instructed me to switch to Alprostadil which was virtually the same medication. However my problems started with a lack of supply in May of 2025, when I was told that Alprostadil was also out of stock, indefinitely.

My G.P tried very hard to source an alternative medication as it was believed, (then) that the supply situation would be temporary. This has proven not to be the case, and we tried to swap to Viridal, (duo) and even Viridal Powder and Solvent combo. Despite all efforts, non of this medication is available to me, and I have had no suitable alternative for over 10 months now.

I have effectively been told that literally no injectable E.D medication is currently available in the UK........!!

Can anyone tell me if this is the case? and have you had similar experiences?

Any news or information would be greatly appreciated.

Rick

Hi, Rick.

I'm in North Lincs. I've been on Invicorp for the past three years. Apart from one or two hiccups, there has been no major supply problems.

I’ve seen others mention similar supply issues with injectable ED meds in the UK, so it doesn’t sound like an isolated case. It might be worth asking for a referral to a specialist clinic, as they sometimes have access to alternatives or compounded options not available through a GP.

I have Viridal on prescription and while there are periodic interruptions in supply (much of last year) the last few months have been fine and the local pharmacy has had supply.

I agree with trying a specialist clinic as they did help last year in recommending different medication (generic Alprostadil) and other pharmacies that were more likely to get supplies.
