PSA 1. MRI shows 10mm area rated PIRADS 4. Encapsulated. 23 shot biopsy. Awaiting results. I'm in meltdown. Head all over the place. I just need to talk to start with... 😟

It is unusual to be diagnosed prior to treatment with PCa, with a PSA as low as 1, particularly at your age. (You do not mention any treatment so far). Waiting for test results can be agonising, these often taking longer than hoped for. I appreciate it is difficult to put this to the back of your mind but it may help if you can concentrate hard on other things.

Treatments for PCa have improved greatly over recent years, especially when the disease is found at an early stage. Do let us know when you have your full diagnosis. Treatment options can then be considered and no doubt members will answer any questions you may have in this regard. Meanwhile, it does help if you can update your Profile with additional information on why and when you had a PSA test. Knowing a person's histology and keeping it updated, does help members make more meaningful replies.

Ian.

I won't say welcome as it's not somewhere you want to be.

But we have all found ourselves in a tail spin at the early stages of our journey into cancerland.

The waiting is so difficult, especially when there is very little support or information from the NHS in these early days.

Its unusual to have a psa of 1 trigger an MRI and biopsy but you've had them now and the results will be along in their own sweet time. There's nothing you can do to speed them up or change what will be written.

Its easy to say dont worry, but I know my mind ran away with all the possible ramifications of ne having PCa before I got my own results.

My psa was 4.8 and I had two pirads 4 lesions on MRI. The radiologist told me I had cancer, the biopsy would just confirm what type.  Queue five weeks of Kubler Ross hell thinking through the possible future fir me and my wife.

No results arrived and I had to call the hospital several times before I got an answer. A snotty and rude secretary told me I'd been discharged and that I shouldn't be wasting their time calling, they had genuinely sick patients to deal with.

Well done NHS! They set my world on fire and then gave me a glass of water to help put it out.

This seems to be a regular thing with PCa diagnosis,  poor communication and a severe lack of empathy or insight.

I hope you get the same good news that I did, hopefully in a better way.

Just keep busy, stay positive and only worry when there is something worry about. Wasting energy now won't help if  you do need it later on.

Take care , Mick

Thanks Barry.

I had specs in my semen

PSA test was 1 but doctor felt nodule.

Urologist felt nothing but did MRI due to family history

That showed 10mm suspect area that has been rated PIRADS 4.

So on to biopsy for which I am waiting results.

Not feeling optimistic with a P4 but it is apparently 'small and encapsulated'.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Much appreciated.

Thanks for responding Mick. 🙏

Urologist seems more hopeful than I do with a PSA of 1.

But it is unusual.

It was only because the doctor also did a DRE that I was put forward to Urologist.

Two Urologist could feel nothing but MRI showed up a grey area.

Ian.

I was 59 when I started on the roller coaster ride.

No family history as my male ancestors died before PCa could raise its head.

But my 63 year old brother was tested the year after me and he has advanced metastatic PCa with an initial psa of 84.

So the family connection isn't a big deal as far as I'm aware.

They only took three cores from each of the two identified areas. None from in between. That's the bare minimum they could have and based on the experience of men knowing here I worry they may have missed something.  Lots of guys say their targeted areas were clear but they picked up cancer in apparently healthy areas of the prostate. Plus everything tells you they can't say you don't have cancer, just that they didn't find it.

I cant get them to do another biopsy unless my psa goes up. I hope it's not too late if that happens.

Just another unintended outcome of the NHS not really handling prostate cancer seriously.

Mick
