PC then skin cancer

If you read my profile you will find out that my latest news is that I now have skin cancer.  Please be aware that I am being told by medical professionals that PC and skin cancer is linked.  Please all fellow PC sufferers make sure you keep the factor 50 in use on the warm days ahead.

I did look for evidence to support this claim and can offer the following:

Daffodil Centre Study, 2022, British Journal of Cancer;

Systemic Review & Meta Analysis, 2020, Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology;

Analysis of Prostate Cancer Patients, 2013, Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Interesting, as melanoma risk is much greater following sun burn episodes when young I wonder if a lack of vitamin D when young is driving the prostate cancer risk?

Getting burned is more likely when the skin has not been exposed to regular seasonal sunshine that naturally increases resistance to burning over the season. This could indicate a lack of opportunity to generate vitamin D too?

My husband has had quite a few spots cut out of his face , he does work out in the elements so not sure if that’s contributed to it .luckily it’s been the BCC variant.

I was not aware that there might be a connection. However, only a year or two before I was diagnosed with PCa, I had a mole on my back and some surrounding tissue removed. It was diagnosed as Lentigo Melanoma, an early form of skin cancer. I was told to keep out of the sun as much as possible, cover up and when exposed use high factor protection. Actually, I must have followed this advise very well because a few years ago I was found to be deficient in Vit D. So I now take vitamin D tablets.

Apparently it's only melanomas that are linked with PC, other forms of skin cancer show no correlation.

Hi,  Are you on a fast track for the melanoma.  I recall when I had a skin graft in 2007 for a Basal Cell Carcinoma there was a young lady who'd been referred for surgery on her forehead directly by her GP cutting out the Dermotologist.   I've had 2 skin grafts, curettage, cryotherapy and various creams for Actinic Keratosis for 20yrs, in fact when my medical records came on line it turned out I'd had the chemo cream, Efudix, in 1994 without knowing what it was.   It took another 9yrs after my grafts to find a prostate cancer.  I've spent a lot of time outside but the dermotologist said the intense sun of time spent tropical places with weak suncream lets it get deeper and has more effect.  I'm on 800units a day Vitamin D for other treatments and have read that at as you get older you should supplement.  Good luck.

Yes I am on a fast track - although at the moment it feels slow, but that is just the nerves talking.  The melanoma is on my left cheek and I have no information yet on how deep it is.  I am nervous that I will get lost in the system as it has happened before, but I know how to get back on the radar.
