Possibly Radiation Cystitis

Hi

So the latest from down below may well prove to be Radiation Cystitis.

Following a normal bit of masturbation, this time I ejaculated blood.  This has happened on four previous occasions over the past month and has got steadily worse.  An immediate rectal examination by our local doctor showed nothing wrong with the prostate, and a check of the penis and testicles were negative.  He has told me not to masturbate for a month to allow the fragile seminal vesicles time to recover as the condition may well be Radiation Cystitis - inflammation of essentially everything down there due to the successful radiotherapy eight years ago.  Apparently this can flare up at any point from 5-20 years post RT.  I am due a urine test in 2 weeks time and a PSA blood test in 4 weeks time.  If anything shows on these tests, it's back to the Urology Dept.  If negative, the rest from masturbation will be the cure.  Tamsulosin has to continue.

The hard part will be leaving myself alone like a monk for 4 weeks though the incentive has to be not seeing blood dripping out of the end of your cock after the almost daily session.  Does anybody else have experience of Radiation Cystitis?

Jeeper, I had very rare very severe radiation cystitis, but mine started a few weeks after my salvage RT. My symptoms were passing blood, blood clots and lots of debris in my urine and catheter.

There was quite a delay getting diagnosed and by the time it was diagnosed it had destroyed my bladder. My bladder capacity dropped to 100 mls. I cannot fill a urine sample bottle in one go. I have now had a suprapubic catheter for nine years.

I did try some hyperbaric oxygen treatment but it was a bit too late.

Thanks Chris

Brilliant answer - very many thanks.  I'm quietly concerned as you can imagine but trying to keep a lid on things pending the results of the two tests.

Hi

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. I'm just starting to have a similar sort of thing. I'm three years on  from radiotherapy and things have always been a bit sore, but it is now uncomfortable all the time and I can't sit for too long.   Ejaculation seemed to aggravate this current bout.

I am hoping to get an appointment with the Radiotherapy 'Late Effects " department for some help but the Oncology Consultant has been very dismissive and uninterested.  The GP tries to help but says it really is for the Oncology/Urology Departments to help with.

Anybody else had trouble with sitting down/driving. I'm using the specialist cushions and having hot baths, plus painkillers and anti inflammatories but only just making it bearable?

At the same timw, always trying to remember that I was lucky to get the Radiotherapy and it saved my life!
