Hi all, new here and finding it hard. My lovely hisband has been recently diagnosed. I am rapidly becoming a student of Prostate ca in between tears, disbelief, sadness and trying to stay strong for him.

I have a simple question. Hubby was prescribed and given Prostap 11.25mg. We understood from the hospital that this would be subcutaneous, but practice nurse gave intramuscularly in his left arm. All of the information I have rwad and on the specific administration leaflet for the prosap for prostate cancer says should have been in his abdomen. Please can some advise of their experience,  as I questioned the nurse and she said all of these Injections go IM in arms. I dont think this is right.

Hi, Karen.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has prostate cancer, however it's great that you have found this site to help him. Welcome to the forum.

I've never had Prostap, but my dad had prostate cancer, and had the injections in his tummy.

I've done some quick Internet research and it appears it is normally injected there but can be also be injected in your arms, thighs or buttocks. The prefered site of the injection seems to vary between NHS Trusts.

Good luck to you both.👍

Hi Karen, I remember being in your shoes - the first two months were a lot of tears, and, honestly panic. As you will read from others too, things calmed down and we started focusing on living and finding strength once treatment was routine. This forum really helps me stay strong. My husband was on Prostap for 2 years (just ended), but injections were all in the tummy. Someone on here did report having an injection in the arm and raising the issue to get it in the abdomen next time. I think this was in the past year. It might be good to retitle this thread "Is Prostap in the arm ok or a problem" to see if that person responds. Sorry I cannot recall who it was or find the thread and cannot find a search function to look for "arm". Good luck to you and your husband. Big hugs to you.

It would seem prostap can be arm or tummy. You will probably see lots on the internet about hormone injections in the tummy, but most of those will be on zoladex which is tummy only. So do make sure you only pay attention to posts which specify prostap.

I have a feeling that one of our users called decho was on prostap.

(Edit) I just checked his posts, it was belly.

Hi,

I was on Zoladex. This was stomach only and by a nurse who was qualified, and trained, to do the special type of injection of the small cartridge.

The surgery asked me to change to Prostap after a while, so that any nurse could do the injection - which was in the arm and very straightforward.

Chris
