Stinging pain in groin

I am 4 weeks after radical prostatectomy and I have the predicted side effects that I am managing however I also have stinging pain in my right groin when twisting or putting any stress on the groin joint. Walking is ok but getting in and out bed is difficult and I have to sleep on my back. To date surgeon, nurses etc have not been concerned and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?

Hi,  After many years of reading on here I can't say I've heard of that.  There is a lot of healing going on in that area so not fiddling about is probably wise for a few weeks more.  It might need a scan of some kind, an exercise to loosen it or just time.

Some experimentation about exactly when it starts and ends and what movement makes it worse or better might give a clue and whether it's getting slightly better.

From my own experience of a sudden onset hip pain that was agony I noticed subtle changes over time and at one point thought there would always be something but after 6 months it was gone.  The GP gave me Ibuprofen cream but it didn't have any effect, he suspected arthritis.

Thanks Peter I have been in contact with my surgeon and he doesn’t seem unduly concerned so I guess I will have to be a patient patient

Hi Brian, I experienced something similar around 5–6 weeks after my surgery. The pain was mainly when getting out of bed or twisting my leg. My surgeon wasn't too concerned either, and fortunately it gradually improved over the next couple of months. Has your pain changed at all since it first started, or is it staying about the same?

I had what I would describe as a stinging groin pain when coughing or sneezing while sitting down. 11 years after surgery I have just had an ingunial hernia repaired, the pain has now gone.

So the original prostate surgery may have damaged something down there as I never had it before that. I guess I will never know.

Yes getting in and out of bed was particularly painful and also twisting thankfully the pain has gone. It didnt dissipate over a period of time it just eased off and then i didnt have any other pain. I am assuming it was some form of nerve damage as i experienced something similar with one of my hip replacements

Sometimes a pain can be caused by several different things, so one should not jump to conclusions. I do not have a constant pain in my groin but I experience it quite strongly on one side in certain positions or if I raise my leg anywhere as high as I can with the other leg. It is also brought on if I jar it even slightly but the pain diminishes gradually over a few days until brought on by being jarred again or moved beyond a usual position. I thought it might be a small tear and a GP agreed. However, I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my lower spine, hips and knees and the Dr thought this was more likely my problem. He has given me some Care Ibuprofen Gel to try. Hence my first sentence.
