Penis Rings

Has anyone any advice on which penis rings to use. In the past I used the Durex one but it seems to have been removed from the Durex website.

It depends on how bad your erections are. If you are like me, no useable erections, I would strongly recommend SomaErect rings. They are silicon and flexible and come in three sizes which is very useful. I use them with VEDs to create the required erection and slip the rings on to the base of the penis from the pump vacuum cylinder. It gives me very strong and sustainable erections. You can keep the ring on for 30 minutes. I can give you information on how to use them.

Brian G,

The best one to start with is the widest hole. It won't hold your erection but it will allow you to prove to yourself that you can get it off! I am shocked at just how small the ring I use is but it does the job for about 10 minutes before I lose some rigidity. If I get the application perfect I can get more like 20 minutes but I have never figured out exactly why it differs, which is very frustrating.

I was a little worried about getting it off, the first time I used the one that is tight enough for penetration, but let me assure you it was just as easy as the original wider hole ring.

Good luck with the trial - it will be fine!

FirmTech works well for me, I find it less intrusive but more effective than the Durex ring.

My penis could ring all night and the missus wouldn't answer it!

Hope you get sorted pal.

Hi 3___________T,

I use the Durex Ring for "The Real Thing" every time, so I was interested regarding the supply:

In Germany I can still get it in shops easily. I didn't check for a while because I have some spares.

... and these things last long! On the box it says "replace after 6 usages", mine lasted more than xxx times.

So, I checked for you on Amazon w/ shipment to UK: no problem, just search for "Durex Ring".

How do you use it?

I always place it "above everything" = including my balls, and I have excellent results!

Had to use two rings for 15 Months but for some time now just one does the trick.

Good luck!

Cheers, Henrik

I am 3 weeks into using my somatherapy pump and contemplating the first time I use one of the many rings supplied with the pump some of them fill me with fear of never getting them off as they seem to have very little flexibility I was wondering if anyone can suggest the best one to start with

Thanks in anticipation

The one they demo on you is the clear silicone rubber one (Surefit ring). You don't use the loading cone for this one - you just stretch it around the tube opening. When you push it off the tube end, make sure it's not going to catch a ball - I've heard of a few people doing that.

The important thing is to know how to get it off. You don't try and drag it off an erect penis. You stretch it wider by getting your fingers inside and pulling it open, wait for the erection to drain away, and then take it off the flaccid penis.

I've never dared to try any of the plastic ones.

The pump includes a demo session, and most NHS areas won't let you have a pump without that as it doubles the chances of using it successfully at home. You can ask if they run them at your local hospital, and if not, call iMEDicare and ask where you can have a session. I would probably never have dared to use a ring if it hadn't first been demoed on me.

In my view, of all the methods for overcoming ED, a VED with constricting rings, is probably the most difficult one.  It require practise, persistence and ability to put-up with some discomfort.  On the positive side it is purely a mechanical process to replace what your body does naturally - no injections, no drugs, no surgery. I know I sound like a VED sales guy!

I was prescribed, by the NHS, a SOMAerect pump with all the accessories  in 2011. The supplier sent a salesman to my house to show me how to use the pump. The demonstration consisted of showing me the pump and the description of what each part does and that was about it. When I began using the pump I realised he had no idea of the problems a user is likely to encounter. I realised that it was going to be a DIY job. It took me some time to realise the problems when using the pump and how to overcome them. I am not sure, even now, the demonstrations cover the nitty-gritty of using VEDs and rings. Over the years I have noticed on this site, and others that some men realise that the only option suitable for them could be a VED but, either they don't even attempt to use a pump or give up trying because they can't get over the initial problems they encounter. Some just give up on sex because other method are not suitable for them. Because we have had such success in re-establishing our sex life with many unexpected benefits that my wife agreed for me to video a live session (no, not actual sex!!) and let other men and couples can view it and may help to re-establish their intimate lives.  So anyone interested is welcome to write ([email protected]) and ask for a copy of this 10 minute live recording which covers how to use to for rehabilitation purpose and builds up to a full erection with rings on; also shows how to take the rings off.

Pratap is that date right (1971)? it is no surprise you are an expert on pumps if you have been using one for 55 years.

Thank you J-B!

Has anyone tried a Myhixel ring as opposed to the ones supplied with the Soma pump?

There is a lot of confusion surrounding the use of rings to maintain erections. There are in general two types, depending on what you want them to achieve. The Somaerect rings are for maintaining strong and reliable erections lasting for up to 30 minutes for penetrative sex; ideal for those who suffer from total erectile dysfunction. The other types are designed to be put on after you have achieved a natural erection but can't maintain it for long enough.

Pratap and Jeannie, I am in the vast middle ground between your two examples.

I can't get a natural erection but find the really tight rings to tight. So I use the pump.and the softer silicone rings, they don't maintain a strong erection but do maintain enough of an erection to perform flaccid insertion.

You don't need an erection for out of this world vaginal intercourse. Look up flaccid insertion or flaccid intercourse.

Thanks Chris

Yes, the pump rings are intended to be tight enough to completely shut off the arteries and veins in the penis, trapping the blood in there.

When you get a normal/natural erection, blood flow increases into the corpus cavernosa causing it to swell, and this squashes the emissary veins from the corpus cavernosa, which causes more blood to be trapped in the corpus cavernosa, generating the erection. If the blood flow into the corpus cavernosa isn't fast enough to squash the emissary veins from the corpus cavernosa, the extra blood will just leak out. Sometimes the closing of the veins stops working after an extended period of no erections or no Testosterone (called veinous leak). This is where the more gentle cock rings come in. These emissary veins drain into the main penile veins which are near the surface (but not the one's you can see on the surface). If you constrict the main penile veins at the base even just a little with a gentle cock ring, that allows more pressure to build up in the corpus cavernosum. This may even be enough to make the emissary veins from the corpus cavernosa close off, significantly amplifying the effect, and sometimes you can even take the ring off at this point and retain the erection.

Just to add the "soft rings" can go on before you start and they will enhance the speed and quality of a natural erection, you do not have to get it up first.
