Upcoming AUS Installation

Been a long time since my last post.  The stress leakage isn't getting any better over two years post Radical Prostatectomy, and the continual moistness around the area causes quite a lot of skin irritation, cracks and peeling.  So, my urologist referred me to a urological surgeon who did a lot of testing, and came up with possible options to help with the leakage.

The first was the urinary sling.  It places pressure on the urethra at all times so if you need to pee, you have to force it to happen.  This was rules out since I have a shy bladder and if at a urinal, standing next to someone else peeing, I can't go.

The second was the Artificial Urinaly Sphincter (AUS).  This is a more complicated surgery, but it places a cuff around the urethra, connected to a small pump, and to a remote reservoir.  The cuff is normally closed, then when you feel you need to go, you press on the pump, which is placed in the scrotum, and the cuff relaxes and off you go, then after about a minute, the cuff squeezes again.

So, in two weeks, it is back under the knife for the installation of the AUS.  I will report how things go after the surgery.

Cheers all

Hi, Richard.

Its great to hear from you again, mate. I hope that you're still loving Portugal.

However, I'm sorry to hear that your bladder problems continue. I hope the AUS surgery does the trick. Good luck.  👍

Adrian,  thanks for the reply.  Portugal is great, and retirement too.  The language, on the other hand is a nightmare to learn.  The leakage has grown very old, and the damage it causes is just tiring.  Hope you are keeping well my friend.
