Pain using flip flo valve

Hi

New member so go easy on me!

I have an enlarged prostate and in trying to avoid surgery have been on finasteride and tamulosin for 6 months. I also have had a catheter for the same amount of time. My consultant has asked me to use a flip flow valve to try and get my bladder working again before I go a uro dynamics clinic.

When I open the valve the urine flow will suddenly stop and I get a sharp pain at the top of my penis. It doesn't happen all the time. I would also add its only started happening since I had a catheter changed a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone had something similar?

Defsy, sounds like you catheter is in a slightly different position. You could try opening the flip flow slower and not fully to see if that helps.

I do have a flip flow, but I have a permanent suprapubic catheter,so it's not the same. You could look for catheter support groups on Facebook.

Thanks Chris

Hi,

I have had a tap for the last 3 months and have the said sensation after every visit to the loo. It sounds very much like, since you catheter change, the balloon in your bladder is a slightly different size. When the urine level has dropped in the bladder while you pee, the balloon will pop on the bladder and give you the sudden urge to swear (haha). I started to use a bag overnight and this seems to have cut the issue down a little. All the best buddy.
