PSA 6.5 and enlarged prostate

Hi all,

My dad is on the cancer pathway as he has an enlarged prostate and a PSA of 6.5.

There is a family history of PC so he has been referred for a scan in the next few days, as his dad died from PC at a similar age (late 60s).

I just wondered if anyone had similar findings from their PSA tests and prostate exams and would be kind enough to share their experiences with MRI please?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mariposa13

I am not quite the same pathway but can offer the following...

You will need to wait for the scan and test results and then discuss these with your team. Although the most common cancer now all of our journeys are different.

I know that waiting for the results/diagnosis and treatment pathway will be tough - it was for me and my wife - and all sorts of scenarios play around in your head! Once the treatment pathway is established you should all be a little calmer about things, but it s still a troubling time.

The fact that you are on here, seeking advice (which I am sure other more experienced/knowledgable folks will provide) is proof of the support that your father already has, which is wonderful. The support of family and friends is so important. It is also important (in my view) to talk openly about the situation.

Have a look at our avatar to see our individual story - ie click on our name/picture!

I wish you and your father all the very best

Best wishes - stay positive
