Hi everyone. I hope you're doing well. If you have had a set back I hope you're well supported and have a forward plan set in motion.

So many of you deal with this life altering issue with humour and stoicism and a desire to help others, it's really awesome.

One thing I have learnt is how remarkable the male body is. As a woman I know it is a thing of beauty too. It can also create new life by a remarkable process.

I've been supporting my husband in anyway possible. Between us together we created 2 new human beings, one of which has also created 2 completely adored little girls, who somewhere do carry a few of our genes. It is amazing really .

Anyway we are going on holiday in a few days. We are lucky. So far husband is tolerating the ADT fairly well with efforts on his part and on mine.

So I thought what would be a great father's day present. He isn't too badly affected by hot flushes. Occasionally he breaks out in sweat on his forehead after alcohol or something but tolerable. However I had a brainwave! I've splashed out on some real silk navy pyjamas! I just gave them to him so we can pack them. They're very light, feel fabulous and very nice indeed! As he said Are these for me to wear, or you to feel!

Humour is a good thing . If you can manage the cost, I think they'll be excellent in hot weather. Silk is worn a lot in India and it washed dries very quickly. It is also very sensuous too

Hi Antoinette,

What a lovely post. Your husband's comment about the pyjamas made me smile! Humour really does help, especially when dealing with something as challenging as ADT and prostate cancer.

I'm glad to hear he's tolerating the treatment reasonably well and that you're tackling it together. Having a supportive partner makes a huge difference. The silk pyjamas sound like a thoughtful gift too—practical for hot flushes and a bit of luxury at the same time.

Your reflections on family and seeing your grandchildren carry a little bit of both of you were touching. It's easy to get caught up in appointments, test results and treatments, but moments like that remind us what really matters.

I hope you both have a wonderful holiday and manage to switch off from cancer for a while. Wishing your husband a very happy Father's Day and hoping many more family memories lie ahead for you all.

That's a lovely response to read. Yes we're together in this, although he's the one going through this ordeal.

He's tackling it very well and although I had confidence he would, I'm impressed at his perseverance.  He has tackled a few feats of endurance like the Coast to Coast walk in 10 days and the High Peak Marathon , 40 miles through the night a few years ago now.

He's recently got a training bench and a few weights and does little and often. As well as the 4 long walks a week.

It's just a bit disappointing that the few consultants we ve seen have zero interest in how you are or how you're coping. There's obviously no time to go into detail but he's never been asked once How are you?

My big hobby is Family History. So family likeness fascinates me. As my daughter said, after have 2 beautiful little girls, Who knew I'd get a female replica of my father in law and brother! You hope for a replica of your husband and get great aunt Agatha's twin instead!!!

Have a good day x

Hi Antoinette

A delightful post - thank you!

I do hope that you have a wonderful holiday.  My wife and I are going away on Monday for a couple of weeks to stay with our daughter and grandkids in Perthshire - and we are really looking forward to it!!! I was diagnosed last September and have been having Triplet Therapy (so double HT and Chemo) since the beginning of the year, and boy are we due a break, especially my most supportive wife of 45 years.

This will be my first Father's Day since diagnosis, and I have two daughters and two grandchildren who are apparently very excited to see us next week (going through treatment and them being in Scotland - we in the Midlands - means we have not seen enough of them).  Family is so important, as are good friends and neighbours - and luckily we have them all.   I know that others are not in such a lucky position and my best wishes go to all of them.

I may or may not broach the subject of silk pyjamas..... and it would be nice to have some hot weather again !!

Enjoy your holiday

Best wishes - stay positive

I'm not a depressive person, but unfortunately since having prostate cancer, Father's day always reminds of the increased risk my two middle aged sons have of getting it.

My dad, although he lived until he was 88 years old, was riddled with the disease plus my younger brother, and some uncles and male cousins, have all had it.

My lads have promised me that they'll have the necessary checks. I hate to think of them having to go through the same turmoil that most of us on here have had to cope with.

I suppose its natural for any parent to protect their children. The thought that I may have passed on the curse, haunts me.

Having said that, I'll enjoy the booze my boys will send me and I'll toast their continued good health. 👍

I totally understand your worries there. My husband's father had PC at 70, had nasty side effects from RT but lived very well till 92.

I keep reminding  myself that if our son does get it he will be further down the track on good treatment.  New innovations are coming up all the time and new research. They will be warned in advance. We can't protect our children from all harm but we can help minimise the damage it causes.

Lovely positive post Antoinette...and we share your sentiments about how blessed we are to have our two children and grandchildren; (my husband is also very much into his family tree research so the power of genetics and what we have created and passed down is at the forefront of his mind).

We have just come back from a week in Turkey with our Son and family and will spend Fathers Day in the South with our Daughter and her family. We have been very naughty and booked a 'last minute' 10 days in Greece in July because Steve has to have more surgery at the end of July, so it's a bit of a 'jolly' before that. He is hoping the surgery will 'cure' or improve significantly his incontinence which he has had since his RARP in January 2024.....we are ever hopeful!

But...like you and your silk pyjamas...we find ways to enjoy the 'little things' in life (no pun intended but Steve's other side effect is total ED and solving it is like walking through treacle!). So, a sense of humour is definitely vital on this journey!

We won't let it grind us down, sadly, there are people in much worse situations!

Anyway, enjoy your holiday and your time together...I'm sure you will make the most of it.

Debbie
