Tadalafil 5mg, Sildenafil 100mg , Radiotherapy how do we do this?

Husband had 1st RT session today. It went well. We know what he's got to do. His bowel was empty and his bladder was in a 'perfect' position. So far so good. Let's hope it's not beginners luck.

He has also just got his Tadalafil prescription today. We know it's a big NoNo to take it together with Sildenafil.

He has got into a routine of taking the S 100mg on a Saturday night. He likes this plan, and since he's the one on ADT, I'll go along with delight with whatever he finds agreeable! He's decided he'll take the T 5mg on Friday morning so more than 36 hours before. Then after on Mon am ,  Tues Weds and Thursday morning to help with the blood flow.

It's a bit of a palaver to get in touch with GP again and she's left no real instructions.

Does that sound a good plan? Has anyone else used them both together?

Any thoughts / experiences gratefully received xx

If he is taking enough Tada he shouldn't need any Sildenifal. I found the Tada to be most effective and not time limited, unfortunately both gave me headaches and eye issues.

My inclination would be to stick with only daily tadalafil whilst he is on RT. I presume this will only be for a few weeks. Knowing how long these two drugs stay in the body and the dangers of their interaction is not something you want to be dealing with at the moment. If he had heart problems and they had to stop the RT it would be very detrimental to his cancer treatment.

Once the RT has finished, experiment to find the best ED treatment, but until then just keep things simple.

The Sildenafil half-life is around 5 hours, and the Tadalafil half-life is around 18 hours.
Your 100mg Sildenafil is the max event dose, whereas the 5mg Tadalafil is the daily low dose (so you're presumably given enough for once a day). Taking the Tadalafil in the mornings, and skipping it on a Viagra day (to take in the evening) sounds like a plan. Some urologists would say just take the Tadalafil every day anyway, but not being a clinician and not knowing your medical history, I certainly can't tell you that.

Sildenafil works best on an empty stomach and particularly having not eaten too many oils/fats.
Tadalafil doesn't matter what/when you've eaten.

The other ways to have the background continuous dosing while getting some boosts to try for sex is to have 2 x 20mg Tadalafil per week (which is commonly prescribed for prostate cancer patients). 20mg Tadalafil is the event dose (equivalent to the 100mg Sildenafil, but works for much longer, often still the next day), but taking it spaced out twice a week also gives you the background continuous dosing because of the long half-life. If you get only the 5mg daily low dose prescribed, taking 3 of them one day and skipping the following 2 days has a similar effect. Some patients manage to get both 5mg daily low dose, and a smaller number of the 20mg event dose tablets prescribed.

Both Sildenafil and Tadalafil are also blood pressure reducing. If you're on other blood pressure reducing medication (which includes Tamsulosin), taking them all together can be an issue for some people.

Can't advise on your specific issue. But I have to say when I had radiotherapy we reckoned we could relax the normal strictures about drinking on Friday and Saturday evenings.

As it happened RT coincided with my 70th birthday and we invited the wider family to join us for a long weekend, with plenty of meals on the patio (it coincided with a period of hot weather) and a restaurant booking for the Saturday evening. I was fully involved, doing a lot of the cooking and joining in with the wine except for Sunday when I had an early appointment next morning.

To be honest I didn't know tadalafil (slow release) and sildenafil (for short term use) couldn't be both used. I seem to remember others here who have done that.

Hi Andy 62

He has just completed day 5 fine. He has just gone out for a walk with the neighbours dog. We both feel we have luckily got a good regime. He opted for weekends as well so does weds , Thurs Fri Sat and Sun with Monday and Tuesday off. The wedThurs Fridays we have to leave about 7 am as it takes about 45 mins in traffic. The Saturdays and S undays we leave at 8.45 and there is no traffic no much better!

He was very tired on the Friday but did a 5 mile walk on Thursday in the heat! Really silly and the early mornings catching up. I was exhausted.

He has taken the Sildenafil on the Saturday and isn't taking a tadalafil till tomorrow, Sunday. The GP is very good and knows all about his BP. He can talk very freely to her. She is my GP too. We shall have to see how this works! I was terrified of Priaprism but all was well. I am a very keen partner ! But I would never want to encourage him to do anything he's not comfortable or safe doing . He has to be the person deciding to do this.

Hi thank you. He has been taking the Sildenafil since soon after he started the ADT really so about 7 months. He had no adverse side effects and it didn't change his BP. The GP said she'd check up on the Tadalafil. It was a telephone appointment and he always asks me to stay and listen or add things if he forgets.  I think if he just leaves a large gap between taking them it should be fine. The Tadalafil can be given for urinary problems instead of Tamulosin so he was keen to take it for that really as there is debate over whether it helps during Radiotherapy or not.

The tiredness was no where to be seen yesterday. Today, well he thinks being up till after 4am to watch the football, yes he's not quite so lively! X
