Scrotal irritation from incontinence.

Hi

First time posting on the forum and looking for a bit of advice.

I'm a 56 year old man who is 5 weeks post prostectomy surgery.

Still early days I know and still physically and mentally coming to terms with the diagnosis and surgery as it feels like a whirlwind.

My journey started in January 2026 when I attended my GP with lower back pain and requested a PSA test, partly because of the back pain but also due to my father having Prostate cancer around 20 years ago. Anyway PSA was very high and cancer was found following various tests and biopsies.

Fortunately it doesn't seem to have spread anywhere else but surgery was advised due to the aggressive nature of the cancer.

I'm recovering well and putting up with the dribbling incontinence and perineum pain but here's my question.

Does anyone else have scrotal skin irritation due to the pads and/or incontinence and if they do what do you recommend to alleviate this.

Hi Gary70,

I am so sorry to hear your cancer journey and I wish you a swift recovery.  I had prostate cancer diagnosed in March 2024 and had my prostate removed in June 2024.  In July/August 2024, I had severe irritation to the head of my penis and I went to the doctor.  He prescribed me a cream to act as a blocker.  He did say irritation can occur anywhere the pad comes into contact.  I later had a few issues in other parts of the pad region and got more of the blocker cream.

In short my advice is see your GP and he/she will be able to help.

You do mention the whirlwind of diagnosis and treatment and I would ask you to take care.  Five months after the op, I hit a mental wall and the enormity of what had happened to me almost became too hard to handle.  I was lucky enough to already be on a waiting list for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.  If you think this is likely to happen to you then please ask your GP to get you on the waiting list.  Cancer is a huge shock to us and many other cancer survivors have had the same issues after recovery.

I so hope your recovery from the operation goes really well and that you soon are pad free.  I was out of pads by six months.

All the best!

That sounds nasty. There's always something unexpected comes to trouble us as if the disease itself isn't bad enough.

I consider myself very lucky as I've had minimal urinary incontinence. I could put this down to years of yoga helping to strengthen my core muscles before surgery, and/or the skill of the surgeon. I've been trying to keep up the core strength with yoga and plates and it's working so far.

You're early days: some things will get better; some things you'll get used to.
