Hi

Just picking up on Paige's post this afternoon.

Is there anywhere a co-ordinated list of research programmes and/or trials which are relevant to the Prostate Cancer community?  I am hoping that there is because simply being a patient is not a good starting point, there must be many learned folk out there who have a list which could be pointed out to us ?

I did see something recently about a survey to be undertaken of how patients are picked for research/trails - which sort of supports the thought that perhaps there is an information gap?

Any thoughts at all?

Thanks for your patience on my reply, I took your question to our Research Funding team for a more detailed answer than I could give!

We're really keen to reach men right across the country, but sometimes it's a matter of which universities specialise in which types of research – we’re funding lots of excellent prostate cancer research in the Midlands, but right now it's mostly lab-based.

That said, the map is always being updated as new projects start and existing projects open new sites, so it might be worth checking back every so often to see if one has opened nearer to you. We've recently started funding more clinical trials, so more locations should come up as time goes by.

In the meantime, if you're keen to find a clinical trial, there's a website called Be Part of Research that lists a wide selection of clinical trials happening across the UK, not just those funded by us - you may be able to find something suitable on there.

I think most UK trials in the UK relating to PCa are recorded by Cancer Research UK. It also tells you all about them and importantly those that are still recruiting. Start here, https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/prostate-cancer/research-clinical-trials

There appears to be 271 trials for PCa presently to work your way through!

Just had a look at that interactive map...

A question - why is there a big gap in the middle of the country where no PCUK supported trials appear to be ongoing?  There is potentially a large population group not being able to be involved without some considerable travel.  

My consultant in Birmingham was only able to point to one trial in London - such travel whilst undergoing HT and Chemo was not going to be contemplated by me at the time....
