One Year On, and going (sort of) strong

Today is the first anniversary of receiving the dreadful phone call from my GP to say that with a PSA of 953 I most likely had prostate cancer…

It has been a rollercoaster of a year, tests, biopsy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy. ( plus discovery of a hiatus hernia, anticipated surgery for an initial hernia, but mercifully my kidney stone has not played up!!)

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to this group and to those on other groups who have provided sage advice, comfort, counselling and lots of humour.

I am treatable but not curable but I intend to be around for a lot longer, so will continue to enjoy the exchanges on this forum.

My many thanks go to my family and to the medical staff at all levels who have supported me through the last 12 months.

Wow - what a fantastic event today in Glasgow!

Such a wonderful day out today with so many lovely people in support of so many good causes. Great to see the Prostate Cancer UK team and so many blue jerseys about today.

An absolutely awesome experience going into the centre of the Velodrome with the track all the way around you.

I was all set up to have a nice ride on the static bike when they decided to put an Olympic Gold Medallist next to me - but what an inspiration! We had a 30 minute ride and I had intended to ride to my target of 12km but with some encouragement from a real Olympian I managed 15.2km!!

Welcome to the forum.

Without knowing your initial exact diagnosis, your first PSA, your Gleason score and cancer staging, it is very difficult to make comment.

However, I doubt that religion or diet will have contributed much to your clear scans.

I hope that you remain 'cancer free' and that you continue to get comfort from your belief, healthy food and supplements.

Great to see being a Christian and eating tomatoes increases your PSA from 5 to 15.

Did your oncologist agree that you had been cured?

I truly admire the resilience of you lads with this prognosis. I'm sure that I'd not cope as well.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2022.

Because of my age and heart failure plus I decided to refuse any. treatment and took natural medicine

Like Tinned Cooked Tomatoes for Lycopene

Rosemary supplements Romsarinic Acid (RA)

Plus other well established supplements

Sulfonate tabkets

Sage Leaf Tablets

1 month ago I requested some CT Scans as a check up.as my PSA was 20. All my 3 CT scans and an MRI scan came back with Nothing to be found I was amazed. Being a saved Christian helped as I always prayed deeply.. I am now just 80 years old and no Cancer Spread ever.

Dear Joseph27, it's really great that you are cancer-free. Maybe if you would like a thread related to your own particular journey you might consider to start a new thread instead of continuing in this one? This particular post is a thread started by CeePee and many of us will return to this to follow and support CeePee in his personal journey. @CeePee, as I face hard days, you and many others on here are my own personal source of inspiration to stay strong and I thank you once again as I try to steer this back to your original thread.

Well not everyone is a saved Christian

I am a Registered Nurse. Social Worker. Psychotherapist. It might suprise you that an Orthopedic Surgeon who fixed my Fractured Femur told me in January 2025 that I had Cancer. He was wrong. I expect he took my then PSA of 15 as the only source of Cancer?

Well after that I went and saw my Oncologist and requested some scans. Hence I complete Head to Toe Bone Scan and 3 CT scans just to be 100 per cent Sure All Scans showed nothing whatsoever

Well at just 80 this month , I won't worry about it.The Supplements which I researched are excellent. I have no doubt they help .

As far as God is concerned, I have a deep understanding of Christianity and Salvation

Very best wishes and I send my healing prayers to everyone who might just like them

My first PSA was 5 by the way

I mentioned on another thread this morning that I am beginning to feel a bit anxious about the forthcoming blood test and consultation- but I appreciate it is par for the course!!

Roll on 19 Aug when I will find out what the next stage is going to be….

Well today went quite well indeed!!!

Bloods all in the zone and my PSA still classed as undetectable- boy am I relieved!!!

Had a discussion about RT and signed the Consent Form - with treatment in November to give me time to get my hernia operation out of the way!

So all seems to be going in the right direction…..

Thank you - it is the living “test to test” which I now have to get used to.

Having a test every three weeks for months on end whilst having chemo was a real safety blanket but now I have to get into the 3 monthly routine.

Both my wife and I couldn’t believe how stressed we were yesterday!

Hi everyone

Well - onto the next challenge!!

Tomorrow - Sunday 6 September- I am travelling to Glasgow to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to take part in the Tour de 4!!

I am entered into the indoor static bike event as I can’t be trusted on the road on two wheels!

I am riding for Prostate Cancer UK and in support of a friend who also has PCa but who has had RALP and is on the way to recovery and cure. I also found out last week that another old friend has Stage 4 brain cancer…they will both be in my mind whilst I undertake the ride.

I have raised over £1,100.00 through sponsorship so far and am looking forward to the event.

Is anyone else attending?

Very glad you had a good time and top work on the fund raising. Me and my nephew did this last year to raise a few quid for PCUK.

We did the outdoor route and the crowds and commeraderie along the way were fantastic. Id definitely recommend. Although the Glasgow weather in September is hit and miss. It would have been nice to have seen the inside of the velodrome too. I guess it's easier to keep up with a gold medalist on a static. 🙂

Hi Willh108

The Velodrome was awesome! After registering we were led down into a tunnel and a few steps later popped up into the centre of the track! There were some taster sessions going on as well so the track was busy.

With a DJ blasting out some tunes and the general camaraderie and good humour everyone was buzzing. The Zwift bikes were linked up not only to each other but to the rest of the world as well - each session was a pre-scheduled race with world wide competitors. The course was an up and down route with different surfaces - and the bike shook as you went over the cobbles!!!! Gradients automatically altered the resistance.

My companion was the very charming Sophie Capewell - Gold Medal Team Sprint in Paris 2024. We had a great chat over the course of the event and she was very encouraging and a little touched when I said that my initial goal was 12km - 12,000 metres one for every man who dies each year from Prostate Cancer. I was very surprised to exceed that (but had been putting some work in beforehand).

My next challenge is surgery! I have an appt on Friday 18 Sept to go and get my hernia sorted at last. Unfortunately it will be a big incision and not keyhole….

Pre-op went ok - the ECG found that I did have a heart after all! I go in on Tuesday to give blood - apparently they like to keep some of your own in case something goes awry . Most disconcerting!!

And then of course there is the top up Zoladex injection on Wednesday- I am going to be leaking like a sieve by the end of the week…
