Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I'm here but happy that this forum is available!

Apologies if my question has already been asked elsewhere.

I had radical prostatectomy 3 weeks ago and my catheter removed 8 days ago. When going to bed I have to get up to go to the loo 6 times a night, the first 4 times hourly then the last 2 with a 2 hour period. Is this normal?

I must admit this leaves me a little tired during the day but on the other hand at least I am waking up as I was slightly concerned that I would end up peeing in bed.

Any help is appreciated.

Best wishes,

John

Hi, John.

Welcome to the forum, mate.

Following prostatectomy, incontinence side effects vary so much it's difficult to say what is 'normal'. I was lucky and was dry all night straight away, but during the day had quite bad incontinence for about 7 months.

How are you coping during the day?

Hi Adrian,

Thank you.

I'm not too bad during the day. The odd leak when I bend down quickly etc but I can go 2 or 3 hours without visiting the loo, though drinking the 4 pints of water begin to take their toll during the evening when I seem to be going every 15 minutes!

Hi John,

Just a quick thought - it might be worth a trip to your GP. I had a water infection almost immediately after the catheter was removed and a second one about two months after the operation. In both cases a one week course of antibiotics was all that was needed.

Thanks Paul.

I'll give it another few days and if things don't improve I'll contact my GP.
