Robotic surgery and complications

Hi everyone,

I had robotic prostate surgery 5 weeks ago to remove my prostate. The operation itself went well. I had a bit of a shock when the catheter was removed because I had virtually no bladder control, although that has improved a little since then.

My main problem is that I was doing reasonably well for the first 4 weeks with very little pain, and then suddenly developed quite severe pain in the pelvic/bottom/scrotal area. It feels almost like I’ve been riding a bike for 30 miles and my whole area feels like it’s badly bruised. Sitting down is particularly painful and I’m struggling to get comfortable.

I went back to hospital and had tests and a CT scan. They told me I have a lymphocele (fluid collection). They said it is only a small amount of fluid and at the moment doesn’t need draining.

I’m finding it difficult to understand how such a small amount of fluid can cause this much discomfort, especially as I was virtually pain-free for the first few weeks.

Has anyone else experienced a lymphocele after robotic prostatectomy, particularly delayed pain around 4–5 weeks after surgery and pain when sitting? Did it eventually settle on its own, or did you need treatment/drainage?

Any experiences would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Neil

I was in hospital a few days because of lymph drainage being high. I don’t want to go into too much detail but my testes and scrotum were virtually untouchable for 2 months after surgery the pain was so great and the swelling so severe. Not nice at all. You’ll come through. Be a patient patient

Thanks Chris, I’d not heard of anyone else with this, I just didn’t expect it especially when I was doing great 4 weeks in. I’m on morphine and antibiotics at the moment. Thx for replying  and sharing, Neil

Hi just wondering, Did they drain you ? Also did this happen straight after the operation , did they give you any pain killers. I’m nearly 6 weeks post operation and was hoping to be nearly back to as normal as possible, but getting concerned now how long this will carry on. Thx again Neil
