5 months to wait for consultation after biopsy

We have been waiting for 5 weeks for the results of a biopsy and received a letter today confirming a consultation in another 4 months. What does this mean?? Is there a way to know the results sooner?

Welcome to the forum, mate.

This is what the NHS say about prostate biopsy results:

It can take a few weeks to get the results of your tests.

If your symptoms get worse, or you're still waiting to hear after 2 weeks, you can call the hospital or contact your GP for an update.

When the results are ready, the specialist will explain what they mean and what happens next.

You may want to bring someone with you for support.

To wait over 5 months to be told your results seems ridiculous! Get on the phone and chase them up. Someone's nuts want roasting.

Thanks for the encouragement!
In a kafkaesque maze of unsuccessful telephone calls, we finally got to the bottom of it.
The consultation appointment letter arrived before the letter with the results!
We managed to talk to the consultant’s secretary and she read out the results to us. Happy end to the story - there is no evidence of malignancy 😅

Great news, if delivered rather poorly.

Sadly it's poor communication from the NHS that causes so much confusion and anxiety for men and their families in your husbands situation.

It seems that prostate cancer is particularly affected by this, I dont know if it suffers from a poor public perception which colours the medical response. Oh at least its only prostate cancer, well all men have it so why bother looking for it.

I can imagine the blowback if we spoke about all women having breasts so having a definite diagnosis of breast cancer on the cards.
