8 weeks post-op – still in a lot of pain

Just an update — I’m now 8 weeks in and still experiencing a lot of pain.

I can only walk a few hundred yards before I start getting pain right underneath, between my anus and testicles. It feels like a throbbing pain, almost as though there’s a small ball there, although there definitely isn’t an actual lump.

I find it nearly impossible to sit. I’ve bought a memory-foam seat cushion, which helps, but I only get complete relief when I lie down.

I’ve now spent around 4 weeks taking it very easy and doing very little because of the pain, but I’m starting to get worried about when I’m actually going to see an improvement.

I’ve been back to the consultant, and he said these types of pains should normally have happened at the beginning rather than starting around 4 weeks in.

I’ve also been getting blood in my urine, although they don’t seem particularly concerned about this. The consultant ordered an MRI, but I’ve just found out it has been refused because they said I’ve already had a CT scan which was okay, apart from some fluid around the lymph nodes.

The other thing the consultant mentioned was that I’ve previously had part of my bowel removed. Initially, they weren’t going to do the prostate operation because of this, but eventually decided it was possible. He said he struggled to get to the prostate because of the scar tissue from the previous surgery.

I’m now wondering whether all that scar tissue or the previous bowel surgery could somehow be contributing to the problems I’m having now.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar around 8 weeks after a prostatectomy, particularly the throbbing pain between the anus and testicles and difficulty sitting or walking?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar and eventually improved.

Have you had a scan to check for an abscess, haematoma, or anything like that?

Have you been checked for a UTI?  (Your GP nurse should be able to do that.)

Bar a ct scan a few weeks ago I’ve also had blood test , a urine test. Urine test at the hospital and the gp said blood in urine gps given me antibiotics. I think they’re for a uti.
I find when I ring the urology team they always fob you off.
Only the surgeon who did my operation was looking for answers but he was baffled. He ordered the mri but on chasing up had been blocked by scanning.
Really frustrating.
