Need a bit of help.

Radio therapy treated the cancer and we have been running with a PSA of .21 . Recently checked for bladder cancer as I was peeing blood. Negative.

Cystoscopy indicates it is damage to radiation weakened veins at the bladder entrance and together with radiation cystitis soreness things could be more comfortable.

When asked if any repair work could be undertaken there was a bit of a shoulder shrug. You might just have to learn to live with it. Cauterisation is very invasive. You are not young.

i wondered if any one else had found themselves in a similar situation and if they found a comfortable solution.

There are a couple of treatments I'm aware of.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment, where you have a number of sessions in a pressure chamber with increased oxygen level. This often requires a trip to a scuba diving centre or somewhere else which has a pressure chamber.

There are clotting agents which can be used in the urethra and bladder, although doing it at the bladder neck might be a challenge.

Nick 2, I suffered very severe radiation cystitis, I did try a number of hyperbaric oxygen sessions but it was probably a bit too late when I started them. It took a long time to diagnose the problem.  Look up oxygen centres or MS oxygen centres, fortunately there was one a mile from my house.

You could contact the Pelvic radiation disease association, they put me in touch with a couple of consultants. There was talk of bladder infusions but as I said, my diagnosis was a bit late.

I was passing blood, blood clots and some very strange bits of tissue. My bladder shrunk and eventually I had to have a suprapubic catheter, hopefully your level of damage is not that bad.

Added. Just looked at your profile, my issues started a few months after salvage RT.

Thanks Chris

My husband has radiation cystitis. He's been checked and treated with hyperbaric oxygen. No more blood in one year. If it comes back the uro suggests this time he will recommend hyaluronic acid instillation into his bladder.
