How its going on Decapeptyl and Apalutamide and appointments

Just thought I'd catch up on husband's progress with the PC treatment.

The RT in July went well. He was tired a couple of days but otherwise fine. He did have a bit of urinary urgency afterwards but that seems to have settled 2 months later.

During it he has been on Tadalafil 5mg and also once a week Sildenafil. This is his choice.  We tried a day off between these two drugs but he prefers it this way and seems to have no ill effects. We have a private joke now. Is it Saturday night? Well it can be even if it's Friday.

5 months ago we were very concerned about his treatment so emailed PALS. To our huge surprise we got a reply the next day saying our concerns had been escalated to complaints. The next day we were contacted that the medication we were told was at least 4 or 6 weeks away was ready to collect. A consultant rang with a very limp excuse that " he had fallen through the net".

A couple of weeks ago I  found a brown hospital envelope in the mail. I hate those. I literally feel sick till he's nonchalantly opened it. I usually reassure myself if it's a thin envelope that it can't be much. We were surprised in the extreme to find it was a 2 page apology. The person responsible for his missed appointment has been "retrained" and we were reassured his treatment will be as effective. Well fingers crossed there then hey. This is months after the event.

Anyway also a week or so ago came another thin envelope. Stomach lurch. Surprise his November appointment has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances. No replacement date given. No further contact yet.

At his last appointment with the RT oncologist I was slightly puzzled at his offer to only see him in future. He suggested husband just miss out the other oncology team as he could prescribe the Apalutamide etc and monitor it. He was very pleased with husband's progress with RT and made helpful suggestions for urgency. He does have another appointment with this guy in February. I thought this was slightly friendly 😅

His last PSA was undetectable. He remains fit and very active. He has put on about 3 or 4 lbs but we've been eating more cakes and pies and entertaining! He is out walking the neighbours dog at present.

So this is where we are. He collected 3 more months of Apalutamide today . I hate that he's taking it but thankful his side effects so far seem to be a shortlived sweat on his forehead and back when he gets up or once or twice in the day. Roll on Saturday

Hi do you mean the Apalutamide?

It's always fun and more. It was different but my husband is doing a remarkable job of balancing his body and I always tell him how wonderful I think it is that he is doing this.

Ps it was his idea to kind of schedule things in advance but I have seen that is a recommended strategy for coping with a lower libido.

Most important of all he feels OK in himself in daily life. We live in an interesting lively community and have several interests to keep us busy and 2 granddaughters we look after once a week . We are busy most of the time and I would hate to see his energy depleted
