Hi everyone I’m still looking for alternatives to the NHS treatment, does anyone have experience of Brachytherapy or Nano knife IR-ECT ?
a clinic in Frankfurt says they invented it and it’s for Gleason 7 and upwards (I am 9)yet the NHS said that wasn’t suitable for me ?

i am already feeling the effects of Relugolix with no ejaculation and getting up 8 times a night for the toilet and feet radiotherapy will damage my quality of life even further

Suitable candidates can get Bracy or Nano Knife in the UK both privately or on the NHS. Suggest you get referral to UCLH or one of the few other hospitals that does Nano. Rather more hospitals do brachytherapy. All treatments can have certain side effects to varying degrees

There are two types of Brachytherapy, with Radioactive implanted seeds (low dose) The theoretical concept was made by Alexander Bell and others contributed to it, Alexandre Danlos and Paul Bloch were early instigators using radium provided by Marie Pierre Curie, others further developed it.

The second type of Brachytherapy is where radioactive rods are placed in your Prostate for a short time and then removed during the same operation (High Dose). This procedure was attributed to Swedish inventor Rolfe Sievent and was developed for Prostate treatmentin Kiel University Germany in the nineteen eighties.  Both of these treatments have at times been given in combination with external beam radiation as well as singly.

Nanoknife was pioneered and first used in Berkley in the USA.  So I don't know just what the Frankfurt Clinic are claiming.

They are claiming it’s for Gleason 7 upwards and you go in for one day and don’t need to take hormone tablets for years

they say they invented it and it has small chance of ED and other side effects are minimal

Focal therapy isn't considered effective for G9 cancers I believe. You will need a wider area treatment and possibly hormone and chemo to get the best chance of a durable remission.

What reason was given?

Brachytherapy by itself probsbly isn't any longer regarded as suitable for Gleason 9, but as part of Brachytherapy boost (with around 60-75% of the normal external beam dose, and ADT), it's probably the most effective treatment for contained Gleason 9. (Don't know what your full diagnosis is, as it's not in your bio.)

I doubt anyone will offer focal therapy for Gleason 9. It's rather more for Gleason 6, and some Gleason 7's.

Hi Andy Gleason 9 contained in prostate

clinic in Frankfurt think Nano knife is the best way to go regarding quality of life I have been advised well to get a PSMA PET scan before proceeding so will get that either privately or if possible with the NHS if possible

Sure it would be great for quality of life but not much use if it comes back next year.

The fact you have not been fully staged yet (no PSMA scan) makes me think the clinic in Germany is trying to sell you something inappropriate for your case. Buyer beware!

You might be right I am going to try and get that scan before proceeding

thank you
