Aggressive Prostate Cancer. Yikes!

First, this is a wonderful website and community.
Just hearing from others going through this medical challenge is very encouraging. Thank you for being so forthright and transparent.
Since being diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer after my TURP 10 months ago, symptoms have persisted. I feel like my prostate is swollen snd inflamed. It hurts to sit. I’ve also had intermittent bleeding with visible clots and tissue in my urine. Sometimes it feels like my stream is blocked. Just blood will drip, then a sudden burst of urine and blood after which my urine is clear, as the abstruction is blasted out (ouch!), until the next incident.
As I am well past 80, I’ve chosen no treatments beyond diet, nutrition (supplements) and lifestyle (exercise).
Decades of diligent immune boosting seem to be paying dividends as my vitals remain perfect.
Although I chose not to have the urologist recommended Pet Scan, I am open to having an MRI and, if persuaded, might consider a prostatectomy. I do not want to live with this pain and discomfort for the rest of my life.
There’s more to be told but l will stop for now and welcome any response you might give.

Hi Overcomer2,
You are so correct this is a wonderful community and it has helped me so much.

It does sound like your symptoms are really unpleasant! I suggest it may be a great choice to go for the MRI and prostatectomy, as it isn't the worst experience I have ever had. I am not medically trained, so can't speak with authority, but I am a great believer we should do all we can to have the best life we can. I was 64 when I had the operation and I did recover in about 6 months. My father was in his late 80s when he had an operation on his heart and it gave him a further 5 years of good-quality life before he finally left this life. I know he cherished those last years and would also be encouraging you if he were still here.

Whatever you chose to do; I wish you all the best and that you do get to be rid of the pain and discomfort.

Paul:

Thanks very much for sharing your experience, and that of your father. It reminds me of the expression: we don’t just want to add years to our lives, but life to our years.
Wishing you the very best as well.
