Resources - where to look?

Husband (60 years old) recent diagnosis- Gleason 8 (4+4), PSA 53 Currently T3b N1 (pelvic lymph node). Although bone scan clear, PET scan showed ‘lesion’ on spine (2 areas). So awaiting results of MRI (praying it’s an old injury/arthritis!)

Been overwhelmed with trying to get my head around understanding diagnostics and reading up on all different treatment types. My way of staying in control is to read up and read into everything - I don’t like to just take the medics advice without being able to question and be in the know. But on this occasion I feel totally overwhelmed and keep going down the AI rabbit hole!! I feel like I just don’t know where to start. I guess also without yet knowing if the spine does have mets we won’t know what we’re dealing with yet. Sorry to sound so confused! I just need to know where to look for reliable sources that are more in depth. Hope I’m making sense. Thanks for reading my first post.

Hi, Liza.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's prostate cancer, however it's great that you've joined the forum to support him.

I hope his scan results are favourable.

I'm not medically trained, but have over the past few years, done a lot of internet research on prostate cancer.

I always use reputable sources and peer reviewed research papers.

I've found this site very helpful

https://prostatematters.co.uk/

Good luck to you both.👍

Fingers crossed the spine iesions are not prostate related. Even if they are you should be able to push for them to be treated with sabr in addition to treating his prostate that would give you a shot at curative treatment.

Thank you Adrian!

I’ve regularly seen your name on this forum and note how knowledgeable and friendly you are. Thank you.

Thank you very much for the link. I think I’m just trying to cram everything in at once and therefore I can’t absorb anything. Yes, I agree with finding evidenced based information.

Anyway, I’m sure this is unlikely to be my last post, and hope that I too can one day give help and support to others on here in the future.

Thanks Francij1 for your reply. Yes, have been reading about SABR in the case of low volume mets. For now, we shall wait patiently for the results.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned already, even at this very early stage, is the need to develop strategies for dealing with uncertainty throughout the rest of this journey. Thanks again.
