What do i have to look forward to ?

I got confirmation yesterday that the prostate cancer (Gleason 7 [4+3]) diagnosed on 30/9 has moved into the bones.

I've started on Relugolix and believe I have Chemo and Radio to look forward to.

I am in a state of shock.

I am 74 years old

Can anyone who has been through this help me understand the process, prognosis and Quality of Life.

I regard myself as reasonably fit albeit I had 2 stents put in 4 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Sorry to hear your news, if it's any consolation I'm only 57 with spread to bone, there are some younger on here, so don't think you're too hard done by.

To get some decent advice from the forum it would help to share how many mets you have and where.

I have one met in the ischial tuberosity had chemo, radio, and continue on ADT, I've had a good response so far and would be delighted if I reached the ripe old age of 74.

ATB,

Very new to this...not sure what mets are but I'm assuming cancer nodes ?

Prostate

Bone

Seminal vesicle

As far as I'm aware.

Im genuinely sorry about your news. Im generally empathetic but I'm in that "feeling sorry for myself " loop.

I was wondering whether Chemo or Radio would come first. How I would feel. I would love to travel again but don't know how realistic that is.

No apology needed, I don't come here for sympathy.

Who gave you this diagnosis?

Did they not explain metastasis?

Metastasis is when it spreads to bone.

Chemo will probably come first, 6 cycles for 18 weeks.

Then radio 3 months later. Normally for a month.

Your health professional/consultant should be explaining all this to you?

Not some guy on a forum!

You should be able to travel again after treatment.

Welcome , not that you really want to be here ! My husband was 55 at diagnosis 4+5 Gleason spread to lymph nodes . I understand your shock , he was diagnosed just before Xmas and it was our worst nightmare, thought he would be dead before Christmas and didn’t know where to turn . He was given chemo , 6 sessions 3 weeks apart . Then he was enrolled on a trial which he is still on .He was lucky he could still work during chemo and has carried on working . This was nearly 11 years ago ! He’s still working ( through choice ) .

Medications and treatments have greatly improved in this time . Once a treatment plan has been put in place hopefully your PSA will come down and you can get on with living your life .

Thank you so much.

And well done your husband.

I guess I should count my blessings that at least I was diagnosed at a time when new and ever more effective treatments are becoming available.

God bless you both

Yes you should, but spread to lymph nodes generally has a much better prognosis than spread to bone. Don't confuse the two.

Thanks matey.

I read your diary and it's helped me clarify things a lot. I have a better understanding of the road ahead.
