Is this the start?

Had a TURP in 2010 which identified I had prostate cancer.

Since then I have had quarterly PSA tests. They results of which the numbers have hovered around 1.6.

However the beginning of August it went to 2.3. The doctor didn’t seem too concerned. But I was. I requested another PSA test as part of my annual MOT and received a call back from the doctor stating the PSA was 16. He has written to the hospital and is having me in for a DRE next week.

I am on long term antibiotics for a recurring UTI and consequently don’t think that is the cause of the rise.

I have always been of the opinion that if this scenario ever occurred at least it would be caught early. Great theory until it happens!

It is the unknown I am struggling with.

Hello,

It could be inflammation and/or the ongoing UTI so you might want to rule that out first and have another PSA test, then a biopsy if it's still elevated.

Your doing the right thing, unfortunately waiting for results and what they might mean is all part of the game, but you get used to it, presumably you've been on AS since your TURP so already know the ropes.

They won't mess about though if you need treatment, and loads of options available these days, all with good success rates for cure if contained within the prostate.

Try and keep yourself busy in the meantime.

Could be prostatitis, be careful with GPs they are generally pretty useless. Insist on a referral.

Hi Wairds.

Welcome to the forum, mate.

Such a large sudden jump is far more likely to be caused by non cancerous prostate conditions.

It could also be possible, from your string of previous 1.6 results, that someone has missed the decimal point in your latest 16 reading. It does happen.

Anyway, lets hope all proves good. Please keep updated

Good luck.👍
