What a brilliant idea, I can see it now, block buster. I’m no actor, but I fancy my chances at being director ๐Ÿ˜‰count me in.

Hmm, low budget, set in a local or maybe a hospital waiting room?

Big budget, a la one of the current reality TV shows with everyone playing themselves on an ultra exclusive island in the Caribbean?

Great results Lyn.

I am thinking along the lines of a bad Carry On film?

So happy for you, Lyn.  You have been a great support to so many of us.

Sorry to disappoint Lyn but I think I am more Sid James than Geoffrey Palmer!

Andy62 - definitely a shoe in for Spock!

Bollinge - I miss his irreverent sense of humour hope he is OK wherever he is being sarcastic these days.

And as for Lyn you are always played by Sylvia Kristel in my dreams!

Great news on the PSA too...

This  calls for a measure of self analysis!  I doubt anybody would want to play me, at least as I am nowadays, just an ordinary laid back old guy who takes too long to make decisions after researching everything whether it be the purchase of a kettle or matters relating to PCa, although I do try to pass on some of what I have learnt to others with regard to the latter.  So if he could be persuaded, I would suggest somebody like William Roache as he played the part of generally laid back somewhat boring Ken Barlow, in Coronation Street, with few surprises, might be appropriate.

I did participate in plays, some years ago now, as one of the events of a thriving Residents Association where I used to live. On every occasion I was the guy who was murdered halfway through so was expendable!

As regards the 'Carry On' films, one of them was largely filmed at Stoughton Barracks on the outskirts of Guildford where I did my Army training and I could have played the part then but not on a remake now, LOL. Incidentally,  the barracks were replaced with a housing development years ago.

I know a little diversion can lighten a heavy subject but hope it doesn't deflect from your thread Lyn.  I am pretty certain that in old forum there used to be a section for jokes but this seems to have been discontinued.

Not at all - I love this conversation. When I asked the question, I was thinking of the old joke threads and also, do you remember Spursparks' "me or my brother know that" thread ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think Newcastle United have some of the most loyal supporters in the UK. There have been a number of lean years despite various managers and some promising players and even as a 'Gooner' I am pleased they are doing well this year. To my mind the game was spoilt when very well heeled backers bought teams and bought success. A prime example of this is Abramovitch who bought struggling Chelsea who then became very successful. Then there was Manchester City, another good team of years ago but had not done well until big money for players and their wages came there way in recent years and success with it. So it's now Newcastle's turn and you can tell what a difference it has made. This makes it very difficult for many sides who are not owned by Millionaires, Conglomerates or backed by large sponsors, to win major trophies. Another aspect is that fans see very good but expensive foreign players, well those fans that can afford the exorbitant gate fees nowadays. But this also means that many indigenous players miss the chance to play for the top teams. Must say I preferred it in the days when it was largely affordable to all.

I can agree with a lot of that Barry but teams like Newcastle, Chelsea, Man city, etc also have the most phenomenal systems now for identifying and developing home grown talent. I have worked with premier league clubs who blew me away with their child / youth set up - things have really changed in the last 5 years, I would say

Agree leading clubs have their academies and this is beginning to produce some good players. It makes sense because the alternative is to spend many millions of pounds in buying from elsewhere. Also, some players who fail to fulfill promise but are still good, can be sold on to other clubs with smaller budgets. Providing good support to players and their families is indeed important to help players remain happy and be such as not to be a detraction when competing for new players. Clubs are run more like businesses nowadays.
