PSA up and down results after HT ends

My PSA record showing how it can rise and fall once off HT. Posted to hopefully help those post HT in a similar position.

The ups and downs were a puzzle. After July 2012 result I checked back on what I was doing pre PSA test, which from what I could recall was high workload (property refurb) and using heavy duty power tools. I put that to GP and we agreed I should refrain from such for a week rather than the norm of 3 days before PSA test. The result from Jan 2013 to now is pretty stable - I pass if that is co-incidence or not.

It’s now 10 years since diagnosis, with all the sadness of late it’s difficult to post this milestone but hopefully it will give hope to some others.

Would have been icing on the cake if GP had agreed I could move onto 12 monthly tests, but no , oh well I will ask again another time..

Jan 2015 PSA result: PSA was 0.736 now 1.5 - Well it’s a long time since my last spike, one can only hope like past times it decides to drop back down again on my next test in 6 months (GP instructed receptionist to remind me - which doesn't normally happen ).

On the positive: it wasn’t unexpected as I just felt my T was high.

On the less than positive: on my last BP check up about 4 months back my GP came out with “don’t forget your next PSA test because you have cancer”. I let it go (being a don’t want to know man) as I thought he was just making sure I went for my test. However was there something in previous full blood tests I had 2 months post that meet which receptionist said was “no action”. Now you see even after all this time how the mind can perhaps see things that aren’t there or are they?

Been doing any more demolition work lately Ray? Seriously, hope your PSA drops again as it has so many times before, so in your case, too early to be of concern for the time being at least.

I post these results to hopefully offer some comfort to those showing PSA increase after HT/RT treatment. I felt this time the spike would have increased which only goes to show how after all these years it can it all be in the mind.

 

PSA from start of HT 0.004 - by end of Zoladex (Aug 2008) 0.001 
Sep 2008 0.001 
May 2009 0.005 Due to spike Pilgrim Hospital (Linc’s) set tests at 3 months - referral point set at 2.

Dec 2010 --- 0.5

Hi Ray,

See your PSA continues to fluctuate but at 1.5 in Jan 2015 is fractionally below your April 2011 peak. Hopefully next test will show a drop again.

Nice to have seen you at Leicester.

Ray, I always love reading your results trail - you have nerves of steel and this latest result proves once again that in your case at least, what goes up always comes back down. So January 15 was an erroneous reading perhaps?

Barry, formal and more than 10 – that would be like a fish out of water for me then :)

Lyn , more like half soaked than nerves of steel. Experience informs my GP will phone to see how I feel if it’s a spike. So I was intending to play ‘who blinks first’ on the basis, he would phone if higher but would he, against my how long can I hang on for? However OH was saying ‘”been for your result” so having a heart of gold or was that not wanting to be nagged :)I went and got it.

“erroneous reading perhaps:” I normally see the same nurse so she knows my choice out of two hospital labs to send sample to. On the last spike it was a stand – in nurse so she could well have sent it to the other lab which is the normal path for them. More weight is added to that as my regular nurse asked this time which lab to send it to which I though was strange so perhaps it was sent to that one? But?

All keeping going as well as you can

I also noticed that Barry said to Ray "Nice to have seen you at Leicester." but George has confirmed that Ray wasn't at Leicester. Perhaps Barry meant to say "It would have been nice to have seen you at Leicester". I don't know! Whatever, it would have been good if Ray had been at Leicester. I remember of the years that Ray contributed to a number of threads on " topical" issues" which created considerable activity! .

It would be good if Ray could manage to get to future gatherings either in London or Leicester.

Barry, you are not alone as SM are an increasing occurance for me. They make life smilingly interesting (for me anyways) so no apologies needed.

Keep on the fighting PCa path of which I follow your progress with interest and fingers crossed for you

Hi Ray,

Very pleased to see from your Bio that your July 2015 PSA test has dropped to 0.712 to continue the falls after rises sequence. Great news.

Fortunately, I haven't had many SM so far as these can be embarrassing if on occasion amusing.

Thank you for your good wishes re my HIFU treatment scheduled for 28th July. I have just received an email with an attachment detailing tests I should have done by my GP for a pre op assessment as this saves me having to travel to UCLH. I have been waiting for this information since 3rd July even though I have chased for it 3 times. It now means the tests have to be done at short notice, analysed and faxed to UCLH by 20th July for themto process, making everybody else jump through hoops. To cap it all, the email to me is addressed to a different name and the sender cannot claim a SM! This continues a saga of very poor administration. It's just as well that clinically UCLH are much better because if they were on a par with their Admin staff they would have a lot of dead bodies to deal with.

Hi Barry,

That has been my experience, too! So much so that I made a formal complaint about its chaotic admin which was acknowledged. I was informed that they are in the process of improving it. We'll see!

My best wishes for your HIFU. Will it be done by Prof M E himself?
