I haven't got to grips with this new site and have lost contact with people.

How is everyone that had just had their ops in april/may/june?

My husbands procedure was on June 3rd and he is doing pretty well I think. Initial incontinence sorted, bowels no longer  quite so inconsistent and tiredness decreased a bit.
We don't see his consultant until September so every little ache and pain he has I jump on and dissect to his great annoyance!!  http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif

Hi Hilary,

Nice to meet you. I'm A relative newbie on here. Booked in for my LRP on 15th August. Just enjoying a few weeks away in my wee caravan before the big day. Had a week in Bath last week (what a beautiful city) ran the marathon & now into a two week break in Cornwall. Ready to face what's coming with a positive outlook!

How are you?

Carlos

Trying to get back out of Cornwall with the rest of the holiday traffic you will need to be positive.

Good luck for the 15th.

I had my op on 20th June.  Consultant said op was a success and no visible signs of spread.

Catheter taken out on 4th July and I was dry immediately.  That has stayed the same, although with a few minor squirts.  I am one a dose of Viagra nightly.  I have woken on a couple of mornings with an erection, but it didn't last long - so some way to go there.

I have recovered well from the op and all bruising gone.  Scars from the RALP all neat.

Had a blood sample taken this week, ready for my appointment with the consultant on Tuesday.  I haven't asked for the pathology results in advance so will hear from him with all the evidence to see where things stand.

Ha, cheers Barrie :-)

We have an exit strategy for Cornwall that's worked well in the past. We will be headed east then north to sunny Staffordshire on The Tuesday before the op.

Hopefully this should beat the fleeing tourists & give me a day at home to tackle the back lawn & washing before my pre op appointment on the 14th.

Looking forward to discussing post op strategy with the support nurse & putting a date in the diary for the ED clinic.

Hi Hillary .,haven't posted on here for a while as have been trying to get back into a normal routine pistol op.As you may remember I had a few complications after the op with water infections and very swollen bits but now things looking much better.I had meeting with urology registrar who seemed a little confused.Said my notes were a bit mixed up and am sure he told me that the psa blood test ,taken. 2 says earlier was 0.18.Also that they had taken 26 lymph nodes which were all clear but that he had taken a large margin and all nerves ,the margins were tested positive for cancer. He gave me yet another option, either to wait 4 months for next psa test to see if it rose or to start a clinical trial of radiotherapy. To be fair I left his office without asking all the questions I intended to ask as I was quite disappointed that psa was still detectable.I told him I was prepared to wait till the next psa test and then decide but ,on getting home I was given an ear bashing by my wife and friends to start the clinical trial.Being further confused I phoned the urology nurse practitioner who I had spoken to prior to op ,to see what advice she could give me.I was surprised to learn that the psa score I had been given was wrong and should have been 0.018. Not 0.18. Although not in the realms of undetectable this seemed to me to be much better and after a talk to her decided to still wait till next psa check in November .Although still under pressure from the wife I am sticking to my guns and waiting. It has given me a chance to recoups rate from the op and now feel much better in myself ,with still some incontinence ,2 pads a day and leak mostly when active .One thing I discovered on taking a weeks break in Spain was that combination of beer wine and sun irritates the hell out of you .Still big prob with E D and off to docs tommorrow for cialis or Viagra in bulk.Nurse said this may or may not help with this but if not would have to get more hands on with problem.I ain't got a clue what she meant by this lol.Anyway enough about me how are things with you now .?Chris

Chris, two quick comments ....

0.018 is 'undetectable' .... so fantastic news and congratulations!

If you have had all nerves removed then there is no point taking Viagra or Cialis; they won't work without nerve bundles or a small miracle. Push for a vacuum device and/or muse pellets / Caverject injections, none of which depend on those pesky nerves. (Perhaps the nurse could confirm for you whether the registrar was correct when he said all your nerves had been removed)

Would the RT trial require you to also have HT? Pretty significant differences between RT on its own and RT/HT for many months or years. If it is any reassurance to you, John waited two years between the op and the salvage RT/HT and I think that gap gave him time to recover from one treatment, get fully fit again, and then believe/accept that he did indeed need the salvage treatment. Each to their own of course, and some men do go straight for the trial but really, why put yourself through even more unpleasant side effects unless you have to?
