Psa level?

Hi,

My dad was just diagnosed with prostate cancer on Tuesday. He has just turned 65. His psa level

Was extremely high at 57. It did go as high as 61. It all started with the high psa level. He had a biopsy with 12 samples taken (all with cancer) he then had a bone scan which was clear. We are now awaiting an mri scan. As far as im aware he is T4 M1 i think. He's been offered hormone treatment and radiotherapy. I'm guessing this will start in January. I guess I'm looking for any suggestions, hope, stories to try make sense of all of this. We are worried sick about this mri and what the future holds.

Welcome to this site where there are a lot of caring and helpful people here who will be happy to answer any questions you may have, but we’re not medically qualified so are limited in what we can advise by our own experiences and knowledge. You can speak to the specialist nurses via the phone no. on this site.

I suggest you either download or order the toolkit which has a lot of helpful info from the publications section.

I went the hormone therapy and radiotherapy route, click on my avatar to see details of my journey, but there are other treatments available.

Check the results you have. if his bone scan was clear he should be M0 not M1.

Hi Arthur,

Thank you for your response. I have had a look at your story. Very positive. As we knew nothing about psa and Gleason scores etc I had felt that my dad's psa level was up there near maximum level, I didn't realise just how high it could go. It gives me great hope after reading your story so I thank you hugely. You are a fighter and my dad is too.

Hi Saze,

I had a similar diagnosis to your father's in May this year. Take a look at my profile, you will see my experience so far. It may be helpful. There are certainly plenty of folk on here that are able to help and support and the information you can get is invaluable. You will hear it a lot but trying to stay as positive as possible is really important although that can be a real challenge, especially in the early days.
