Final chemo session today. Rang the bell and got the certificate!

Now the hard part.....

Have to make the decision faced by so many of us as to what to do next. The ATLANTA trial offers me the possibility of prostatectomy or curative dose RT. Plus also could possibly have SABR to any metastatic bone deposit. Hopefully will get new scans soon to help with making the decision.

It’s great to hear you have completed your chemo sessions.  Good luck with results of your scan and with the next part of your journey.

Well done finishing chemotherapy. You will be able to make an informed decision on the next steps once the scans have been done. All the best going forward.

That all sounds pretty positive Cocker2. It is a strange time of adjustment for everyone when treatment finishes. Now it’s time to live your life enjoying the golf, cycling and other things that make you happy. Best wishes,

RT and Sabre for the Rib and Pelvis? Sounds like the way to go.

SABR, if necessary,  will be  offered which ever way I decide to go. One problem is that, due to COVID, the only centre for the ATLANTA trial open to me was Imperial College. As I live Gloucestershire that presents some logistic problems for 20 fractions of RT so a 2-3 day stay would certainly be easier. However, at the moment, I think best to make the decision based on medical grounds and work out the logistics once that decision has been made.

It’s a while since my last post and things have moved on somewhat.

I have had the scans which showed the chemotherapy to have done a pretty good job. There are still active metastatic deposits in the pelvic area but the rib seems to have ceased and also the main tumour reduced in size.

The logistics of having RT in London were too complicated which tipped the balance so have decided to go for prostatectomy and then SABR treatment if necessary. Provisional date has been set for August 26 so five more weeks to reduce weight further and increase muscle! I have lost 11Kg so far using combination 16-8 diet with more exercise (cycling and return to golf) now starting some light weights and exercises to build muscle.

An update of where I am…

Recovery from  RARP last September was thankfully very easy for me I think due to the skill of the surgeon at Charing Cross and also the preparation I did.

Although a pain having to go backwards and forwards to the Royal Marsden in London five times in December I had the Cyberknife treatment to my pubic ramus that was the final part of the ATLANTA trial.

I’ll continue on HT for the rest of my life I’m told and have 3 monthly PSA tests (so far all have <0.1).

I may have another PSMA scan later this year but otherwise that’s it for the time being!

I’m truly thankful to have got here although as others have reported after two years of thinking about little else it is taking quite a bit to adjust to no more hospital visits on the horizon.

Looking forward to returning to golf and getting back on my bike once the weather improves.

I wish everyone the best for your respective journeys.

The period after treatment can be quite a mental struggle.

Macmillan do a couple of courses for people at this stage, one is a half-day, and the other is 6 sessions at weekly intervals I think. They are both in small groups of patients at the same stage (although not with the same cancers). I've heard that patients really enjoy them (although not done them myself).
