Hi MNS,

I’ve had surgery, HT plus external beam salvage radiotherapy but can’t comment on brachytherapy!

I found this on the PCUK site Brachytherapy

It includes a section on side effects.

Hopefully someone who has experienced brachytherapy will answer too.

All the best,

Ido4

Hi

I had Brachytherapy in September 2016 with PSA 2.19 and Gleason 3+4=7. I had 5 out of 20 cores positive.

I think at the time i worried about problems but had good advice from members on here but apart from a little discomfort and getting up a few times a night it settled down with the help of Tamulosen for the first five or six months and gave them up in April 2017 with agreement with the doctor.

I am 4 years on with PSA 0.08 and was signed off in January by my specialist with yearly Psa test.

If you click on my Avatar you can see my progress but if you need any more details please ask.

Regards John.

Noel,

There are lots of possible side effects. They broadly split into two categories:

Short-term - as a result of the medical procedure or during the radiation.

Late onset - usually starting 6 months or later after radiation.

Something that makes a significant difference in the timing is if you had LDR/seed/permanent brachytherapy, or HDR/temporary brachytherapy.

There is a Prostate Brachytherapy UK Support Group, which is meeting on Thursday evening on Zoom, which might be of interest to you.
