TULSA therapy

I was reading about a new ultra sound therapy called TULSA therapy, that seems more advanced than HIFU. Does anyone know if it really is better or not? Has it been properly researched? Are there any results yet after a number of years

The 2 main advantages versus HIFU as far as I can read by googling are

1) Keeps neighboring tissue healthy by cooling wile heating the cancel cells

2) Constantly orients the beam to the actual location of the cancer despite the prostate moving all the time due to breathing or gas

Is this available in the UK?

I think the trial doesn't publish until 2023 and then NICE will spend an age deciding whether or not to approve it :-/

George 68 told us on 7th February 2022 that he had a treatment appointment for TULSA in 6 weeks from then. He also agreed to update us on this but disappointingly, so far there has not been anything further from him.

Cancer Research UK lists many but not all trials. (I have not checked whether they cover any trials regarding ' Tulsa Pro'.) Another possibility is to contact UCLH in London who have a specialist who investigates various forms of Focal Therapy and would know the latest about where this is being trialled even if not at UCLH as yet. Another possibility is to contact the manufacturer of the equipment who should be able to advise where the treatment is being used/trialed (see links in earlier thread linked to by Lyn, although others may now be doing the procedure). I think at least you will need to get the support of your GP and most probably your diagnosing Hospital who will have to supply your histology and scans which you can request, so a check can be made as to your suitability. Also, if within a trial, you will have to meet various conditions and restrictions of the trial criteria and that they are recruiting.

Are you prepared to go abroad for Tulsa Pro if it cannot be done within the NHS or privately in the UK?

I would strongly advise you to remove your email address from your forum name. This is a public forum and anyone can see it.
