Cryotherapy treatment

I have has nanoknife twice but cancer has returned.  It is within the prostrate.

I like focal therapy due to lower side effects but my concern  is whether cryotherapy will simply delay the cancer

i have been offered cryotherapy but wonder if this is the best option

i have seen a radiologist who proposed 8 week dose and hormone therapy which I am not keen on.  I favoured brachytherapy but she felt that wasn’t correct option

doctors only push their own speciality which makes it hard to choose best pathway

has anyone had cryotherapy

If you are eligible for a focal therapy, I can't think why you would not be suitable for brachytherapy. If your prostate is larger than 55cc, they would probably want to shrink it first with 3-6 months of hormone therapy tablets in the case of LDR/seed brachytherapy. (There's not generally a size limit on HDR brachytherapy, and large prostate may even do slightly better with HDR than smaller ones.)

You do have to ask a brachytherpy oncologist if you're suitable for the procedure though, and not some other type of specialist who doesn't do brachytherapy.

Like other focal therapies, cryotherapy may simply delay the cancer but that was all nanoknife was likely to do and that doesn't seem to have put you off. My view is that if minimising side effects is really important to you and you feel you can handle another possible recurrence at some point in the future, what's not to like? Some men would be absolutely devastated by a recurrence but you give the impression of being fairly resilient about it all?

Very few men on this forum have had Cryotherapy but I hope at least one person who has had this form of treatment will respond.

I took part in a study of men who were offered HIFU for failed radiotherapy. For those where HIFU could not be focused due to the position of the tumour(s) Cryotherapy was offered as an alternative. You could get an opinion on your suitability from UCLH who have the widest experience of ways of administering Focal Therapy in the UK. However, UCLH admit that there can be some cases where it is beyond Focal Therapy to achieve what is needed, so more radical treatment is required. So suggest you contact UCLH and ask for your options and their views on them in your case.
