Turp before radiotherapy

Hello

Just wondering whether anyone knows if you have to wait for two or three months to have a Turp to improve urine flow before radiotherapy? I’d like to get the procedure over with as quickly as possible unless there are clinical reasons not to.

Thanks

In my case the TURP improved flow immediately. It is the healing that takes time and I should think that would need to be complete before RT. Best consult the medical team

Thanks for your reply Peter.

i was wondering about time between starting hormone therapy and having the Turp. Can the latter be done sooner rather than later or is it necessary to wait several moths?

Not a clue, Mike. You really need to address that to the medical team. Sorry I cannot be of more help here and I wish you luck with your treatment.

I had a TURP in May 2016 after being diagnosed Oct 2015. Started on the bical/HT right away. Put forward for TURP as flow not good & RT would make it worse & be a problem. I was advised would have to wait for the 'wounds' to heal, couple months at least for RT. As it happens I started RT Nov 2016 for personal reasons, nothing to do with treatment etc. I was quite happy to delay RT as onco & everythig else suggested no worries. So, generally, there is likely to be couple of months delay for healing before RT.

I had a mini TURP before starting Brachytherapy and there was a two month healing period before Brachytherapy.

Also, if you're going to need a TURP, always better to get it done before radiotherapy than afterwards. A TURP after radiotherapy has a higher chance of causing incontinence and is a more difficult procedure.
