Has anyone been offered the 5 day radiotherapy treatment either on the NHS or Privately and if so what is the criteria for having it ?

thanks

Black lab, an in law of mine had the 5 sessions at a NHS hospital a couple of years ago. I believe it was part of the PACE trial. The criteria at the time that they were treating lower risk prostate cancer where HT was not required.

A subsequent change and I think it may have been PACE C ,was to include higher risk cancer.

Andy62 has previously posted some useful info on the the 5 session treatment. I will see if I find the conversation.

You could also use Google to find results of pace trial for prostate cancer.

Thanks Chris

A couple of people in one of my support groups who were going to have LDR brachytherapy were offered the 5 fraction SABR instead at Mount Vernon, chose to take it, and are both very pleased.

It is to be offered on the NHS as a standard treatment. The trial sites and some others have continued doing it on the NHS, but last I heard a month back, the commissioning documents had not been sent out from NHS England, which was holding up offering it at non-research sites which hadn't already been doing it.

EDIT: this isn't MRI guided treatment - it's cone beam CT scan guided.

5 blasts of RT without any HT sounds sooooo attractive to me. I wasn’t offered that but would have jumped at the chance knowing what I know now about the side effects of HT. There’s a guy in my Maggies support group, tall like me had only a year of HT, finished in June this year and can hardly walk with joint pains. It’s awful stuff for some people!
