Vacuum pump rings

User

Hi there. My partner has had a radical prostatectomy and we have tried vacuum pump prescribed on NHS. Fine for rehab but when it comes to sex rings are very painful and feel pull in skin and bits of scrotum if not careful. Can’t seem to get it on right place on penis. Tried 2 at a time but not better. Any tips from experienced users?

Hi Kate

We have been using vacuum pumps for over 12 years now with some success. If you private message me and let me have your email address I will be pleased to send you a link to a short live-video which may help your partner. Also you may like to follow the following link which describes how we have managed to re-establish our sex life with the help of VEDs.

Just shoved them off the end of the tube, makes sure they are in the right place too (as near the root as possible).

Just may sure it's all shaved down there else you will be in trouble!

VED Rings and hints on using a pump

For nearly thirteen years I have used three/four different makes of rings. In my opinion the ones sold by iMedicare with the SOMAerect pump the best because they are pliable, although they can be a little difficult to take off. They come in 3 sizes: X, Y and Z. It is best to start with Y. I use Y normally which can be rather tight when new. You can soften them by putting them in hot water and stretching them or leave them on the vacuum cylinder for a few hours. I find that as the rings get older they tend to split, so I use two rings, a relatively new one and the split one. Two rings are better than one because they are more comfortable to wear and provide more reliable erections; the training manuals/representatives don’t tell you this. It is really a matter of trial and error.

As far as the pumping process is concerned it is a matter of practice, patience and putting up with some discomfort. Make sure that your pubic area is shaved (my wife's shaver works best for me) for a good vacuum seal and makes removing the rings easy and painless. When you Insert your penis into the cylinder making sure that your testicles are pulled away from the cylinder and start pumping. You will feel that the area around the base of the penis is being sucked in. Ignore this until you feel it is uncomfortable and release the vacuum and repeat. Every time you repeat, the penis is longer and after three or four attempts you will have a full erection. Slip the ring/s off the cylinder which normally releases the vacuum, if not use the vacuum release button to remove the penis from the cylinder. Reading about other men's experiences about other methods of treating ED, using a VED is quite a good option because it is non-invasive with no side effects provided, of course, you have the patience, determination and willing to put up with some discomfort.

They suggest you pull the scrotum down (away) from the pump opening, to prevent any of it getting sucked in, and angle the pump slightly upwards.

Have you been to a pump clinic where the company rep demonstrates it on you? In some areas, the pump is only available after having been to a pump clinic, while in other areas it can be prescribed without this. Attending the pump clinic and having it demoed on you doubles the chances of using the pump successfully. Given you've tries two rings (which they teach at the pump clinic), I'm guessing you may have been to one.

I only tried the rings a few times, as I really only used it for penile rehab (for which you don't use the rings).

Yes, had rep demonstrate. My partner is using for rehab successfully. Just can’t get these rings on the right place to be comfortable for sex. People have mentioned other rings or maybe we try something else like injections.

I ordered separate rings as recommended by iMedicare. I use the Z ring.

What I’ve found that if you’re a grower rather than a show-er like me, it’s much more difficult to use these pumps because no matter how hard you try it’s difficult not to get excess skin sucked into the tube. I actually think it’s not that good a design. I bought a £9.99 pump from Lovehoney which works better for me for rehab.

as for getting the rings in the right place I’ve found it’s a very swift action required,  and timing is essential. I have to pull the ring of at exactly the same time as I release the pressure. One time I got some skin caught and was left with a nasty bruise😩

Pratap is the expert on these pumps, might be worth speaking to him?

When I used them with some success I never released the pressure until the ring was on.

Injections are much better IMHO

You won't be able to until you've done more posts and maybe been on the forum for longer (not sure of the precise rules).

Well I tried it anyway. It’s not that easy because of the suction at the end of the pump against your skin but I managed it…but then ouch!😱 and another big bruise on my poor Tadger😩

There really is a flaw in the design of this pump. I’ve found the only combination that works for me is B cyclinder inside C cylinder, and then the rubber insert in the C cylinder. However this leaves a small gap between the end of the insert and top of the B cylinder and as the penis becomes erect, skin gets trapped in it. Agony when you remove the pump!

I then took out my £9.99 pump from Lovehoney device and used it…it worked instantly, got a much better erection and it’s got a much better suction.

I think I’m going to make an appointment with the ED nurse…..

This is the one I used to use before I got my mojo back :

It worked for me and facilitated my first successful sexual encounter after my op.

Not yet though. I just tried and it wouldn’t let me.

The pump works for me, Just follow what others have said, Keep scrotum out of the way, regularly shave the area, and ring comes off easier for me by applying a spot of lube around the ring.

Only when the ring or two rings are in place, do I remove the pump/vacuum.

I have the same pump but could make nothing of the rings.  To cut out a rather long and difficult story I eventually landed on Invercorp injections which are first class.   I still use the pump to maintain tissue health and before administering the invercorp.  Without doing so, I had around a one in three failure rate which I self diagnosed as the injection missing the target area.  Since using the combination of pump and injection, 100% succes rate
