Supplement Trial

I have read on this forum about trials undertaken by a professor from I believe Bedford into how probiotics may impact on prostate cancer and PSA. There have been trials previously and a recent trial has just concluded and I am aware at least one man on this forum took part.

The results are now available as they have been discussed in a USA conference. Here is the web page

https://www.urotoday.com/conference-highlights/asco-gu-2025/asco-gu-2025-prostate-cancer/158203-asco-gu-2025-gut-health-and-prostate-cancer-the-influence-of-a-specific-phytochemical-rich-food-capsule-plus-or-minus-a-probiotic-prebiotic-blend-on-symptoms-and-progression-a-randomised-double-blind-placebo-controlled-trial.html

The results are interesting. My husband has had surgery so  probably too late in the day to really benefit but is taking the supplements. They are available on Amazon and are Yourgut + and Your Phyto. His consultant said it was fine.

Please I am not suggesting these supplements as an alternative to traditional treatments or following AS guidelines but some men might like to explore the results. This was a proper clinical trial.

Thanks for posting this. It is very interesting.

I wish someone could prove eating burgers and chips and drinking Mild was good for you. 😁

Thanks for sharing IDK. I am not great at interpreting clinical trail results, but the upshot of the trial seems to be a fairly strong indication that the supplements can (and on average do) reduce PSA. I am slightly surprised there has not been more press around this. I guess it was a fairly small sample size. I suppose the other point is that reducing PSA is not necessarily the same as reducing the cancer. Still, seems like a positive result.

You will see on this forum that there have been other trials conducted by the same professor. Some members have taken part in earlier trials including this one.  What they are saying in this trial is that the supplement does not artificially lower PSA like some medication used to treat BPH. They say this based on the six patients whose PSA increased and disease progressed. Agree this is a very small study. Still interesting.

Hello all

I am on surveillance with Gleason 7 (3+4) so very interested in way to keep my PSA down. I have also been following the supplement trial which I see was presented at ASCO urology - I found this report online last week which I have found is easy to read. The study had over 200 men which seem big enough to me, although not an expert.

They also did MRI scans, which is reassuring, and they seemed to have ruled out a PSA effect. I have taken both supplements (yourphyto and yourgutplus) since I saw reports about the trial last October and my PSA has stablised although I also do a lot more - exercise a lot, have cut our sugar and now eat a lots of fermented foods.

On a separate point, I remain confused about fish oils though as another  trial in ASCO implied they helped yet two previous ones suggested they should be avoided

That's interesting.  I am currently awaiting the results of a biopsy I had a couple of weeks back, have a psa of 1.47 but DRE found something suspicious in December and MRI warranted a biopsy, but been taking probiotics and Ginseng for years and started taking vitamin D at Christmas just after my MRI, along with ginger and turmeric tea every night (as turmeric apparently can help).  No idea how effective these supplements are but some positive research so prepared to give them a try...
